Basically,I'm 19 and have been noticing a receding hairline recently and it's quite embarassing.I'v been doing a lot of research and everything seems to point to propecia being the best option, especially for a young person. It sounds convenient aswell, just a tablet a day,I don't want the stress of having to apply regaine all the time.So do I have to book an appointmemt with a doctor to get this, anyone know?I think it's only available on prescription,Id like to get it before I go away for the whole Summer in two weeks.(And please don't just say ''shave it',wouldn't look good on me at all)

this is the equivalent of putting up a post saying "im getting old help".
Im afraid baldness is one of those evil things that some people are stuck with and some arent, this started happening me at around 19 but it stopped and I still have a full head of hair so theres always hope but I wouldnt rely on it.
You could always save up and get that hair follicle thing Steven Ireland got

Yeah best getting to a doc. I use propecia, well..proscar cut into 1/4's. Its cheaper that way. Dunno if its working though but its the best treatment out there at the moment. Dont buy it on the net yourself, lots of people do that, I did that when I started and just ended up worrying if the meds I was getting were genuine.

    Hi Randomperson88.....
There are many products and options when it comes to hairloss. Some have been proven to work in stopping, slowing down or even regrowth of lost hair. Be careful though as there are just may expensive gimmics that will leave you with nothing but an empty wallet and a bald head....

Propecia is one of those proven methods. This doesnt mean it will work for everyone though and dont forget that this is medication that you have to take everyday to maintain its effectiveness. Dont forget this is a drug and you should think about it before you decide to go ahead as there are possible side affects such as loss of libido which they say only effects 2% of people! Propecia is quite expensive and im not sure if its even available in this country. There are generic brands of propecia such as finpecia. They are made by a different company but contain the same active ingredient finasteride and is much cheaper

There is also regaine foam which is a topical solution that is applied to the scalp twice a day and does work in many cases. This website is where I got most of my information www.hairlosstalk.com loads of info and helpful people on here.,.... Good luck

Unfortunately it happens and it's a shock but it does happen. I'd recommend shaving it all off. Pills can have side effects and laser treatment is expensive. Embrace it, some girls actually like a shaved head.

I was 18/19 when realised that my hair was receeding too.

My Dad is bald on top and so are one or two of my uncles, my brothers have got good heads of hair on them.

You can take all the tablets, regaine, special shampoo you want but do you want to spend the rest of your life worrying about your hair, being self conscious of it when you go out, worrying is it getting thinner etc etc ??????

Life is too short man, you have better things to focus your energy on than your receeding hairline.

I shaved mine off when I was 21 (Im 30 now btw) before i started loosing it completely, it at least looked like I had a choice...................... now and looking back best thing I did. I didnt think it looked good on me either at the time............but looking good with it completely depends on your attitude and how you carry yourself, not what length your hair is. Once the sun gets it and your have that brown head going on you'll be amazed how well it can suit you.

Trust me a man who comes across as not giving a sh~t and getting on with life instead of fighting genetics n worrying about loosing his hair is way more attractive to women..................I have 9 years of action to back it up :)

Sky is blue, grass is green, some people loose their hair. Nothing you can do about it !!

But the facts are, propecia works for 83% of people, with only 2% experiencing bad side effects.I'm not expecting to regrow my hair, nor do I want the worrying to take over my life. But one pill a day is fine with me! I really don't want to shave my head!Has anyone out there tried it before, how did you get you're hands on it?

best advice is to just accept it. If you are 19 and its coming, very little you can do do stop it enough
    Shave your head!

    How receding is it?

Sometimes these things look way worse through your eyes.

It may just be your natural hairline falling into place.

Post a pic and we will know for sure.

A few stylists here may be able to give advice when they know what they are working with?

A nice cropped hair cut can give the impression of a good natural hairline, I would go to see a good hairdresser before seeking medical help, you may be panicking for nothing

Yes, go to your doctor and ask about proscar. Its the same as propecia only propecia is 1mg and proscar is 5mg. I cut the proscar into 4 pieces and take 1.25mg appox daily. Proscar is used to treat something else and thats why it comes in a higher dose but its the same active ingrediant.
