I just ordered 30 tonnes of topsoil. A local lad was getting rid of it for €100 so I took the lot. I am now starting to wonder if this is an awful lot of topsoil! I have about an acre of land already done but need to cover around 1/10th of that. Anyone know what 30 tonnes of topsoil looks like!?

Work on the basis that there is 1.2 to 1.5 tonnes of topsoil per cubic metre, so you have about 20 cubic metres, or enough to cover 70 square metres at 300mm thick. 1/10th of an acre is about 400 square metres, so even if you only put it down at 100mm thick, you are short by 50%.

Topsoil in my experience, never goes as far as you think it might.
