    Hi All,

I would like to know how to approach a compay with an idea.
Basically I have an idea that I believe would enhance the sales of a companies products and I was wondering how to approach them....if they allow this of course.

Do you have to work for an advertising agency in order to run an idea ast the top people in the company(if you get to see them that is).

Alternatively, do you need to first approach an advertising company so they can go to the company with/for you.

I'm just trying to get a feel for this as its something I have been interested in for some time.

    Thanks in adavnce,

    Slimbo

can your idea be easily copied by the company? if so it doesn't really matter if you are on your own or an agency.

if you are a business you could try and approach their sales / marketing dept. with a proposal but your idea would need to be protected by patent / trademarks etc. and / or with Non Disclosure Agreements or they will simply cut you out and do it themselves.

approaching a company with an "idea" is fairly pointless, you need to be able to offer added value that means they can't do what you can or you need to have: unique skills, patented technology, exclusive agreements, amazing contacts , or an other way of doing this in a more cost effective way than the company could.

+ a detailed forecast of costs, revenues, commissions etc.

    Slimbo,

To be taken seriously by a company and its sales/marketing staff, you would really need to have some sort of track record or credentials/qualifications.

You would need to be very credible and able to grab the attention of a marketing manager in 2 minutes flat.

I'm certainly not saying it can't be done - but it sure ain't easy!

    Thanks for replies,

The company I want to approach are very big in the drinks industry.

Would it be better to go to an established advertising agency and get them to approach them?

I know I would have to cover all angles with them as they would simply take it away.

I don't want to just drop it and have always been interested in the concept of advertising and believe this one would fly.

    :)
