Pretty much as expected. Although dual strike wasnt that good (too similar to gba versions) and tetris wasnt good at all!

didn't know you could get tetris for the DS, why do you think it wasnt good at all, it's just tetris isn't it, it's well known at this stage

Tetris on the DS is bloody brilliant! They really perfected it with that game. If you're bored with it, whack it up to level 16. Great fun :)

There's absolutely no way Mario Kart deserves the number one spot. If you were around for the n64 version this is absolutely nothing new on that. And I really didn't see the fuss with that version either.

Some really great games on that list though. Would have given number 1 to Phantom Hourglass. Also would have given a mention to Ninja Gaiden DS. Much better than those silly Nintendogs games.

Yeah, so far Ninja Gaiden is just outside that list with an 83.0% average rating. Not to be picky or anything. Just posted it to give some people an idea if they were looking for a new game.

Exactly! Tetris is tetris. There was nothing more to be done with it and that game didnt have to be made!

The basic tetris game is very good (and same as the countless other versions), but the extra modes and variants make it well worth having.

No Anno 1701 in the top 20? Unbelievable game, best game on my DS.

Out of that list i must get one of the castlevanias and professor layton.

Great range of games there but no sports games. No really good sports games on the console unfortunately.

I'm not lying when i say this and people may not believe me but to this day the hardest game to beat i've played on the DS has been chocobo tales. you actually need better reflexs than the ones taught in the ninja reflex game. took me about 2 weeks of solid playing to beat it. laugh if you will but if you want a challenge, thats the game for ya

Got Castlevania Portrait of Ruin earlier for 25 euro second hand in gamestop. :) Looking forward to getting stuck into this one. Unbelievably, ive never played a Castlevania game before. I was looking to play Dawn of Sorrow first but can't find it in the shops.

I loved Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass game. Took me about 2-3 weeks to complete fully. Currently I'm playing Final Fantasy: Revenant Wings. It's pretty damned good too. Amazing graphics during the cut scenes too.

Another game I quite enjoyed was Dementrium: The Ward. Good graphics. First time I've heard actual spoken dialogue on the DS platform and it was good. Too short, though, and also too linear at times.

One huge complaint I have about it is that since I purchased it over in America, and because it's not available over here yet, I can't trade it into any shops, or sell it on to them.

My top DS games are as follows,

    Space Invaders Extreme
    Picross
    CrossworDS
    Zelda Phantom Hourglass
    MarioKart DS
    New Super Mario Bros
    Ninja Gaiden DS
    Professor Layton
    SuperMario 64 DS
    Brain Training
    ElectroPlankton
    42 classic games
    Solitare DS

they are the ones that stand out at this time anyway.

Mine would be pretty much the same as yours Ciderman, havent really played Electroplankton, Geometry Wars or Solitaire, so Id swap in Worms 2, Zoo Keeper, Advance Wars and LEGO Star Wars: Complete Saga

Is ninja gaiden any good? I got 80 euro refunded to my paypal account cos of something off ebay failing to be delivered and I looking to buy a new ds game, cant decide between, Proffesor Layton, The World Ends With You, and maybe ninja gaiden!

Ninja Gaiden is a bit rubbish, for all its fancy charms. It's very pretty and has an excellent novel control scheme, but it's also really repetitive and has an annoying habit of separating save points and boss encounters with ten minutes of tepid grunt hack-and-slash.

Also, Tetris DS's normal Tetris is pretty much broken by letting you "walk" pieces back and forth across the stack, effectively giving you as much time as you like to place them. "Endless" mode games are often just that. Multiplayer, where speed still counts, is excellent, though.

    My favourite DS games, yay!
    Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!
    New Super Mario Bros
    Space Invaders Extreme
    Mario Kart DS
    Trauma Centre
    Phoenix Wright
    Professor Layton
    42 All-Time Classics
    Pac Pix
    Meteos
    Kirby Power Paintbrush
    Animal Crossing
    Taiko no Tatsujin DS
    Zoo Keeper
    Colors

    DS is lovely.

Just re-read my post there and when I said I "just posted it..." I meant the list in OP, opposed to Ninja Gaiden in that post. I haven't played it myself but from what I gather, I'd say you probably couldn't go wrong with any of those three.

They're all good games. Ninja Gaiden does the whole hack and slash thing very well. It can get a tad repetitive, but is good at what it does.

Professor Layton has an absolutely fantastic style to it. Chances are though you'll end up getting stuck on a really hard puzzle for ages and will feel extremely bad for using gamefaqs... :O

I'd say go with The World Ends With You, probably the best all rounder.

The World Ends With You definitely deserves that high spott! Fantastic Game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭randomuser77

    Firstly,

    *bump*

Secondly, given that over a year has passed, we must (at least) add to this list

    Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
    Big Bang Mini

and presumably a host of other games that I haven't gotten around to playing yet.

Thirdly, everyone keeps talking about The World Ends With You, but I can't find it in the shops. If anyone has a copy they no longer need and were looking to earn some money ... ;)

Elite beat agents was really disappointing I thought, after all the chat I had heard it was just a bit meh.

The only good thing I can say about it is that it added skippable intros.

Osu! pissed all over it in all other respects

Final Fantasy IV deserves a nod.
