Building Tech. advice needed

Hey guys structural technology isn't my strongest point as a student and could really use some advice on this question. so here goes :pac:

A preliminary scheme is for a sculptural gallery has been developed to incorporate large areas of glazing in the external walls. The proposed space is 8m square, at least 4m high and to be kept clear of internal structural supports.

Sketch in outline, two different structural strategies that could be adopted for this building.

Develop one of these proposals to show the arrangement of structure in plan and section, approximate element sizes, and a representative joint detail.

I'm not looking for a word for word answer by any means. Rather, i'm just hoping to get on the right track and to do the rest of the joint research from books etc.

So my main questions would be: should I opt for a rectangular or arched portal frame?, should it be constructed out of steel, laminated timber or (concrete)?, what sort of rough spacing are we talking about between each framing member? and finally, what sort of wind bracing would be typically required for this type of construction?

    Any advice greatly appreciated

span / 20 is a safe rule of thumb for steel or rc beams - so 400 deep over 4000

600 deep for glu lam should do it

    8m x 8m can divide into 3 bays at 4m c/c

post sizes at 250 x 250 should be ok steel / RC

To answer you other questions, it can be any material, in any form, portal frame, post and beam, space frame,

These questions aren't designed to see if you can size elements but rather to see if are aware of options.
