Help needed in DIY installing a spare sky box

I got SKY+ in today and have now got a spare SKY box. The installer left the old cable attached to the dish because i told him that I am going to stick the old box the study. I had a quick look in the attic and the rest of my tv's are being received off an 6-way aerial distribution amp. Would i be right in saying that if i find the cable feeding off it that goes to the study, i can connect it to the spare SKY cable using f-connectors . And then again connect that cable to the digibox in the study.

Also is there any other pieces i will need for this job

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Yeah, that would pretty much sum it up. Use F connectors and F back-to-back connectors to make "joins"

What sort of cable is feeding the study? There's a good chance it's RG6 (silver foil, with either tinned braid or copper braid), though if the cable run isnt' too far, it should work OK. If the cable is all copper CT100 (or equivalent) then that's even better, being the minimum standard for satellite signal.

I think the cable is copper braided(presuming that means whats round the cable.)

Unfortunately the cable won't come out of the wall far enough, so what type of cable should i get to attach the the cooper cable and then on to the box.

Also what bricks & mortar store sell these cables and f-connectors.

You'll just need a length of CT100/TX100/PF100 cable to go from wall to receiver. You could either use more F's and back to back connector to join, or use a good screened wallplate that has a female F to screw your F connector into.

Any decent electrical shop should have it, I'd expect.

Right I have everything connected as above, but it says NO SATELLITE SIGNAL BEING RECIEVED. How do you know if the f-connectors are properly connected using f to f connector.

Also I do not have a viewing card in this spare box.

YOu may have made a bad connection, or shorted a wire somewhere.

Check this site to see how to wire F connectors properly.

You don't need a viewing card to view FTA channels, though you would need one if you wanted to watch RTE/TV3 etc from it.

I tried to return it back to normal with just the aeriel connected to the tv, but the picture is all distorted. I fear i may have damaged it in some way.
