    The phone is unlocked.

Do 3 sim cards not work in other non-3G phones?

Generally speaking no, but there are 1 or 2 phones which will work with a 3 sim

All 3 network phones are 3G, they don't do any non 3G phones. Don't think their cards work on non-3G handsets.

Surely they must support users moving their card onto another handset?

I might drop into onto one of their stores tomorrow.

Yes but with mixed results. Try it in the phone and see is the best way.

I can't vouch for 3 Ireland, but both my 3 UK Sim cards (contract & PAYG) will work on a Nokia 6101 and 6230i (both 2G phones) and also an O2 (Pantech) Ice which has 3G.

They will not however work on a Sagem My-X2 or My-X6, both are a few years old.

To my knowledge 3ireland use USIM cards which most non 3g phones don't support. Some do with a firmware update but not much chance of being that lucky i'd say. My 5310 works fine with my 3 USIM card and that's not a 3G phone. I haven't found a source that shows what phones take a USIM or not.
