cheap sat cable?

I was checking out sat cable and there are three main types.
There is the WF100 which is expensive, but foam insulated.
There is the RG6 Good but not ideal for a long extension.

There is the less expensive PH100 (air) from Philex Electronic Ltd.

I need to extend the cable 50 meters for sky. The PH 100 is sold at Zintek and is cheap and is CAI benchmarked. I have heard some dodgy rumours that PH100 is not CAI benchmarked.

Does anyone know if this is the case and would the ph100 be ok for a 25- 50 meter extension.

If its true PH100 and carries the CAI mark on the cable then it is fine. PH100 is on the list http://www.cai.org.uk/downloads/CAI%20Cable%20Benchmarking%20Scheme.pdf

Hard to understand what you have to extend the cable as sky installers are supposed to use CAI benchmarked cable in any case. I would have thought the installer should just charge you for the extra cable and labour.

There is a tree in the way, I have to extend it almost 25 meters away from the house. Should the instalation cover for that.
I was told I had to get the cable myself!

Well its not a standard installation but why should you have to get cable that the guy already has? Any good installer would quote you a little extra and be glad of the work, does not sound right to me at all.

    Hi,

I recently purchased this cable and I was wondering if anyone has used it and if it is any good for Sat cable ?

It is made by Labgear, it's description is 27600FW 100m RG6 Coax Cable White Foam. 1mm conductor, 64 * 0.12mm braid, Aluminium foil shield, foam dielectric.

I do not see it listed in the link above.
    Thanks.

Its probably ok for 20 m or so but i would not use it for any longer lengths. its not listed because it does not meet the quality standard.

RG59/U and RG6 are just about acceptable, but if you're on a marginal setup, you're not going to get much with them...

Make sure you've the right size F connectors for the cable, as I've found some of the RG cables are noticeable different to CT100-clones

Folks tend towards CT or WF for better attenuation over distance. However it is the RG59 that loses attenuation (as all cables do) over 100 feet and not the RG6 which according to this website is recommended by the experts for satallite.

    http://www.abccables.com/info-rg59-vs-rg6.html

The RG6 also has a solid copper centre and the triax also has a copper braid and a copper screen while philex has copper braid and a shield(design could just be different) . The Triax is pretty damn good as good as you are going to get without getting into serious money.

However there are different suppliers , Philex (which now owns labgear) and Triax etc.. have their own cable, but it's good cable and I see its foam which is better than air insulated.

Some folks reckon that RG6 will only do for short extensions.

I had to get an extra long extension for my cable......
(On the sat sation on your tv there is a signal indicator in bars which indicate the strength and quality of your signal.)

...The RG6 extended over 65 (taking slack and obstructions into account.) meters and yet still works at a high level of quality and high level of strength. Something like 96 % signal for quality and 98% for strength. The picture is crystal clear. There was no noticable loss of attenuation.

I assume that T. coaxial RG6 is a very good cable.

Nonsense. RG6 is not on the CAI list for good reason.

RG6 might do for an indoor run. There many versions of it and some are not suitable at all.

RG59 is FM radio aerial cable or indoor cable TV patch. It's too skinny for standard connectors. It does indeed use a much smaller diameter F-Connector. Don't use RG59 for anything nowadays except FM Radio or DAB. It's the 75 Ohm version of 50 Ohm RG58.

There are different types of RG6 with different quality , the installers use the very best.

    Which installers? :)

There is only one version I know equivalent to proper sat cable. I don't notice anyone installing it.

RG6 is a Cable TV coax. UPC don't allow anything else for apartments.

Tony said PF100. A foam version of CT100.
