Screen Resolution?

As a kind of follow on from elven's poll about picture pixel size I'd be interested to know what screen resolution people work at. I mean spending a fortune on gear and working at 800x600 is a bit pointless.

I work at 1680 x 1050 on a Dell 20" (which is too small BTW) Hoping to add a 24" as a second monitor someday. I'm not even sure "widescreen" at 20" is a good notion at all. My laptop resolution is greater but I can't remember and am too lazy to turn it on. It has a 17" screen.

    1600x1200 21" CRT at home
    2x 1280x1024 17" (4:3) LCD at work, but in 1 month I'll be getting a 2208WFP at 1680x1050

I mainly run on my 13" MacBook at 1280x800. We have a 30" mac display in the job and it's the business!

Surely you don't buy all your gear just to post on Boards??? ;)

That's the same resolution as the 20" so where's the advantage for more money. Better save for a 24" with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 me thinks?

I'm not paying for it, it's in work (we're due to move building to all new equipment)

I'm looking for a 1920x1200 24 incher for myself, any recomendation without breaking the bank? (i.e. under or around 500)

The cheap Dell 24" for just over €500 gets awful reviews. Unfortunately the 2408 is over €800. It will be awhile before I can get that. The reviews are brilliant tho and it has HDMI and DVI and.........enough, I can't afford it!

I wonder of you lot with LCD, do you have a TN panel or something else? did you choose your display based on its panel?

you can find out here what panel your display has

Samsung 223BW (widescreen) has a 22 inch 5 ms TN (Samsung) panel.

    5. 800×600 3.30%
    6. Rest 10.50%

I remember at the time I bought mine that I checked through some serial or Rev. No. thingy and it an S-IPS, which, apparently, is good.

And I can't imagine the refresh rate being of any signifigance when it comes to photo editing.

1900 X 1200 on a Dell 2407WFP. We got a delivery (50) of the new 2408WFP in work recently and it is a beautiful screen. I'm just waiting of a duplicate order so I have a second 24" widescreen :p

Got it because it was SIPS. Would love to splash out on a serious monitor, but just can't justify it.

1920x1200 on a Dell laptop, not the greatest but it will have to do for a while, pity there is no "student" price for decent screens.....
