Usual practice?

Got a new job a few weeks ago through a recruitment agency. I got a call yesterday from the girl who got me the job saying that she would be popping in this morning. She came in with a little gift bag which had a branded cup and a small box of butlers chocolates.

It's been about 7 years since I last got employment through an agency, so Iw as just wondering is this common practice from agencies nowadays or is it just teh one I was dealing with. It was Premier Recruitment before people ask.

It's definitely not common practice. What the recruiter's name as a matter of interest?

Never heard of this before and I've dealt with a couple of agencies.
But.....I have noticed alot of branded agency mugs in the office lately.

Yep, I've never heard of anything like that before!

    Nice touch. :)

I'd also like to know who they are.

Considering they just made about €15,000 grand from you, it's about time they gave something back :p

Yes I agree. I've heard of it before in other industries but not here in Ireland, over in the US.

Yes I agree but it's not something I've seen before.

I do in-house recruitment for a big company and there's an agency that randomly sends us small boxes of chocolates every now and then. We never really use them though, so I don't know why they keep doing it.

    .....not that I'm complaining!! :)

We used to do this with temps in a recruitment company I worked for a few years ago......

its a real win-win...happy recruit, and reflects well on recruiter from companies point of view. Didnt think anyone was doing similar, although we do generally bring candidates for a celebratory lunch.....

I initially read that as "celebrity lunch". I was imagining some nervous 21 year old in his best suit having dinner with Pat Kenny.

In the hope that you will start using them. It's a sales tactic.

Of course, but they've been sending them for around a year now and we still have no intention of using them :(

Well, I got the job I'm working in now through a recruitment agency and they sent a Good Luck! card to me on my first day there. I was a bit embarrased cause of all the attention (it was my first day so my name was being shouted out, "Got a letter for Jeremiah...who is Jeremiah....where is he?") It must have ended up on 10 desks before it hit mine.

I know which company that is! What's funnier is they sent us about 3 small boxes of chocolates and then sent us an empty box - on purpose! There was a letter with it basically saying call us and you'll get chocolates again.
