    hi,
went on my first outing with the nikon d80 yesterday evening (previously used 35mm film nikon n65)....when using monitor playback on a few images there is part of the image flashing, can anyone explain what that is ?

(when i zoom in or look at image on tv or pc, they are fine)

You have the playback set to show either highlight or shadow clipping, there usually a way to cycle through the various playback options.

that means those parts of your picture are either too bright or too dark and they are all grouped at the max/min value (loss of detail)

yeah, i believe its a bit of an overexposure problem on certain parts of the shot..

use the wheel that adjusts the aperture and you can cycle through the image options, theres about 4 options in there i think but the last one will just desplay the pic as it is without the flashing over exposure.,
