Can I use a W810i as a modem (with the laptop) on 02?

Yes. Install the software off the CD and follow the prompts.

Call O2 Data Support on 1850 601740 if you need someone to talk you through it.

Just watch out for the costs (get a data bundle if using any serious amount!).

Cheers for that. I just want to pick up email and browse a few technical forums in the evening while travelling (in Ireland) for a week. Thats all I'd want it for. I was thinking I'd turn on the addon then turn it off when I come back.

If you're on prepay there's no addons. If you're on Bill there are a couple...

Got it connected just for a quick test. Its a bit slower than I expected. Not sure if its worth doing.

You'll get Edge speeds so it will be faster than dial up but slower than the slowest "broadband".

Would suggest disabling images and stuff in your web browser, downloading headers only for emails, etc.

Good tip thanks. I might just download a bunch of material to read instead.

There was a thread here before aswell about someone using Opera Mini (a mobile phone java based browser which aims to optimise data transfer so you don't use as much as you would with a normal phone browser) on their PC. Didn't look ideal at the time but maybe it's worth looking for?

    Up to yourself!
