    Ok i need advice,
I was on anti-biotics last week and was also on my seven day break from my pill. I finished the anti-biotics on saturday and i started my new strip of the pill on monday.
So im all confused whether the anti-biotic affects these first few days because it may still be in my system, or it may not affect the pill because I was on my break??
I need to know asap because my boyfriend and I are PANICKING and thinking that I may need to get the emergency pill??
    ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!:(

Go to a doctor ASAP. If you're in Dublin, well woman clinic open late on Thursday I think......you are supposed to have 7 days of taking the pill after you finish antibiotics before pill is effective again.

A pharmacy can't give emergency contraception without a prescription.

I am in the same boat, almost!! I was still on my pill, and was on Anti-Biotics for a chest infection from Tues - Tues last week. I was looking up websites etc about the effectiveness of the pill etc and they said that only some anti-biotics really affect it. Dunno what to do myself!!

Keep taking the pill as normal, and also double up on protection and use condoms for the next week or so, don't rely on just the pill. Have you had sex since you were on the antibiotics? go to your GP and ask for the morning after pill if you have reason to suspect you need it.

Don't worry. You have 72 hours and tomorrow morning would be well within that time.

I think that the morning after pill is just a few normal contraception type pills (which you already have). Why don't you ring one of the well woman clinics to check or even look it up on the net. That way you can take the pills straight away rather than waiting until you can get to a doctor tomorrow. The longer you leave it the less effective they are.

Please dont scare me like that

I have 72 hours as it hasnt even been 24 hours since i had intercourse. I did call and they said i should go to doctor to get the actual pill itself rather than taking a few more of my own.

Sorry to freak you out but it is true. The earlier you take it the more likely it is to work.
Also the m.a.p will do nothing if you are already pregnant - it will just stop you becoming pregnant if you aren't.

Fado fado when the after morning pill was illegal in Ireland, docs would tell patients to take 2 normal contraceptive pills instead. However this was not always effective & depended upon the type of pill you were taking.

Now the proper MAP is available, docs do not recommend you do the above. Particularly as it doesn't always work. Bad advice littlefriend.

Also true. But she couldn't be pregnant yet as she had intercourse last night.......implantation takes about 6 days after fertilization. Could vary a bit, but no way after 24 hours.

Happened to me so I'm afraid you are wrong. I also know at least one other person that this happened to.
Perhaps this is where you are getting confused when you say that regular pills do not work as m a p's ie - the person was already pregnant when they took them.
OP I'm not making this up - believe me or don't doesn't really matter. Take a few of your pills tonight and go to the Dr tomorrow.

M.a.p is the way to go. Dr. who prescribed antibiotics should have warned you they knock out the pill for the days you take it plus seven days afterwards. Remember this in future and best of luck OP.

Basically you need to go to a professional to get advice on this, so see your GP.
