    Anyone else have this yet?

I generally really like Gemma's stuff (and went to a great gig of hers a year or two ago). Dunno about this one yet though. Given it two listen throughs and it doesn't seem as accessiable as her older stuff, and seems a bit slight or something. Grew a bit on me on a second listen, but thus far doesn't seem up to the standard of her older stuff.

I'm a big fan.... I have her other 2 albums, most of the singles, and Work To A Calm and 4:35am.

I'm finding it hard to get into this one, to be honest.
I wasn't crazy about the first single, maybe that tainted me against the album?

None of the songs grab you like Hanging Around or Let a Good Thing Go.
Ran for Miles is one of my favourite Gemma Hayes songs, and I don't think anything on the new album comes close.

Maybe its a grower. I think I'll give it another run through now....

Not doing it for me, I'm afraid. Great voice, but she needs to learn it's not a sin to vary the tempo, her songs are all either mid-paced or slow.

It does feel very slight, sound-wise. Shame, really.

Well I did listen to it again, and I'm still a member of the 'meh' brigade.
Not sure the electronica really fits well. Make it acoustic or electric, and stop the bleepy-bloopy shite. *

    * Disclaimer - there is nothing wrong with bleepy-bloopy shite, its just not my taste. :)

I don't think she makes the best use of her voice on the album really. I remember being really impressed by her voice when I saw her live - she is a fantastic singer. But seems like vocals are a secondary concern here - which is unforunate, as the music itself is quite minimalist as well.

I do like Out of Your Hands though - think its a solid single. But as Mr.E says her older albums always had a few stand out tracks - Ran for Miles, Back of My Hand, Hanging Around, Happy Sad, Horses etc... - but nothing like that here :(

It all just sounds the same to me, she seems to have run out of ideas. The first album was class though.
