Posting images for C&C - warning

We're getting a ton of huge pics in C&C threads (and the random thread) and if I have to edit one more post I'm going to go crazy and ban everyone...! I'm not having a good day

    As stated in the charter:
    Guidelines for C&C

Please put (C&C) in the thread title, as not everyone wants to read C&C threads.

Keep images under 700px on the longest side. If you want to post larger images, you can link to them.

Try to keep to a maximum of 4 images to a thread, and link the others. Exceptions can be made, in cases of stories being told with the photographs, etc. Please use common sense.

If you need help with posting images in threads, see here.

    Now, play nice. Please :(

Should we increase the max image size to 800px? 65 votes

the exposure is all off for this photo... some harsh shadows too, not sure about the centred subject - where's the foreground and background interest?

    :D

On topic - could we make it 800px? Pix.ie offers pictures to that size (the next one down is 500px which is a bit too small to see proper detail in my opinion).

I think 800px is acceptable... let's open it to a vote...

800px is fine and as long as people stick to the rules we'll all be happy. Also the no quoting photos seems to be ignored lately.

I'm all for sensible sized pics.
By the way, is there a limit / guideline for the file size?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

I'm not entirely sure how file size actually relates here because most of the time you'd be working from flickr's own resized version of your original shot so I don't know if you have any control over it in that way.

generally though, I wouldn't expect a sub 800px jpg image to be close to even 1mb.

Apologies. I know i did that once yesterday. :o

Elven,if you do increase to 800 just ban people who post bigger images than they should, or at least infract them.

It's nice to be nice and all but if someone repeatedly and knowingly breaks a rule then they deserve it.

To put it in to context if you had infracted me for quoting a photo i would have deserved it.

I use flickr, so 700 or 800 makes little difference, as my option is 500 or large (too big)
so if 800 makes the peeps happy, so be it

800px is usually the norm and the largest I will post a pix. They're usually less then 150kb in size as their optimized :).

Just as an aside fourthirdsphoto's forum which also runs on vbulletin resizes the linked photo on the fly, clicking on the photo opens it to the size posted.

I know I havn't explained it well so example here, click on the photo.

Seems to strip out the link back to flickr/pix though.

Save the hard pressed mods though

    Sent up along the ranks.

That's using Flash, or some equivalent.
Would mean an upgrade of the entire forum & require every forum member have a suitable browser.

I'm all for it, but just wanted to highlight the possible delays.

    :( I never post larger than 700!!
Sorry about the problem in Random thread after my deleted my flickr account & thank you for sorting it all out!! :)

800px would be good because on pixie anyway usually the default size is about 800, so it would be less hassle & harder to make a mistake.
i'd prefer to see some shots a little larger too.
