I'm not even a little surprised. I watched the trailer and new it wasn't going to be up to much.

Ah ffs. I just read that (spoiler and all) and have now lost just about all faith in Shyamalan. I agree with what the reviewer is hinting at there in that Shyamalan is likely gonna completely ruin The Last Airbender. :(

I think the problem with Shaymalan is that he created this whole persona around him as 'master of the twist', and his films have grown increasingly silly as he tries to live up to this. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were very well told stories. Signs was a great, sometimes scary slow burning character drama until the silly conclusion. The Villiage was a good first half runied by a second that completely disappered up its own arse, with a condescending, ill-judged twist that was predictable from a basic synopsis. Didn't bother with Lady in the Water, as I think his style has become tired and predictable. Hoped the happening would have been an enjoyable diversion, and while I won't be reading the review if its spoiler heavy, I'm not entirely surprised early feedback is so negative. At this point, nonsense is all I expect from M. Night.

The poster for this movie annoyed me. The tag line on this particular one:

    We Have Sensed It
    We Have Seen the Signs
    Now its .. Happening.

What a way to plug your own movies.

I think South Park hit the nail on Shyamalan's head:

    Agreed.

I loved Signs and Unbreakable. And was enjoying The Village until that terrible ending. I still think the guy has talent, he just let all the Sixth Sense hype go to his head. I mean, they were calling him the new Spielberg on the basis of one film.

I can't remember much about Lady In The Water. Did that have a twist as well?

Yeah... the twist was at the end when you turn of the DVD player and realise that you wasted 110minutes of your life watching it

    lol, yeah, I guess.

Actually I think I feel asleep half way through it and never saw the end. I wish I could say the same for The Village.

Robot Chicken parodied his movies perfectly, and had Shaymalan constantly pop up going "A twist!"
How is he still getting funding? "Lady in the Water" bombed and "The Village" didn't set the world alight.
