Crackdown/ GTAIV

I just got GTAIV on sunday and have played through a good portion of it. Really enjoying it so far but if I'm to be honest I thought Carckdown was a better game.

GTAIV has unsurpassed production values but has a very familiar feel to it. Crackdown was just over the top fun. Levelling up your character to make that extra high jump or so that you could pick up a truck. Class. Also the graphical style suited the game perfectly.

I'm sure that I'm in the minority with my view. It seems though that in the last six months, with the exception of COD4, all the hyped games have been somewhat of a letdown.

Yea ill agree with you.. COD4 has been the best game in the last six months - a year..

As for Crackdown vs GTA.. Im going go with GTA as I didnt like crackdown much! Im sick of GTA now though I got 100% in it last night and I dont even know how I finished it.. Cant even be arsed with the multiplayer, all the previous GTA games were better story wise.

Ah yeah very true! Been pondering this myself quite a bit. Whereas they are somewhat similar games (sandbox/steal cars/shoot criminals etc) they are also completely different. I always think of GTA as say the gangster movie, but Crackdown as a ****ing comic book or something. lol
Many times I've been staring at a building in gta just saying to myself "Dang I wish I could just hop over that" or trying to realise I never will climb that get a life building with just my bare hands. :D
Climbing to the top of that agency tower and kicking a friend off it in MP will never come close to anything in GTA. lol

Being playing GTA IV recently, pretty impressed with the production values like you say, it's very clever with the dialogue but a tad repetitious in terms of actual gameplay.

Just grabbed a cheap copy of Crackdown on Ebay earlier, never played it, will be interesting to compare the two.

You can't just 'get 100%'. You have to do so much menial stuff that you'd know it was done. 200 Flying Rats anyone?

I would prefer Crackdown gameplay in the GTA world.

I could do without the lifting cars and hopping buildings as GTA goes for a more realistic approach but I thought the combat system was much better in Crackdown, I would add a cover system though. Aiming for specific body parts or parts of cars, switching between targets was easier.

Also the driving in GTA would be grand if they used a decent camer angle.
