I have an old pre war BSA bike that pis**es oil out the gear box not long after it is filled. If it dose not end up on the road it ends up in the primary case and eventually messes up the dry clutch. I thought of just filling the gearbox with grease altogether, is there anything wrong with this? I can't use EP90 as there is bronze bushes in the casing. Is there any grade of grease that would be recommended?

I think that you can use EP 90 as long as its not GL5 spec. Is it a big job to replace the seals?

The problem with grease is that when cold it will get flung to the far out corners of the box, and it wont get where it should. When the box warms up the grease softens and does its job, but it will still probably leak out, though not as much.

Do you know why its leaking ?

If its a seal that is suspect, rather than a gasket, you could try a seal sweller, or seal reconditioner !

What seals in a british bike  If a Brit bike is not leaking oil there is no oil in it. It leaks through the cases as well. This bike is a BSA M20 which is a very crude 500 Single and are prone to rattling themselves to pieces. I thought of mixing oil and grease.

Have a look at this thread from the Classic Bike mag forum:

The land rover swivel grease is like cv joint grease which you should
be able to get in a squeezy tube in your local motor factors.
