Got a Stereo that can pick up digital tv for car. Has a seperate Digital box n everything. Don't know what I'm doing wrong but cant get a signal. Stereo can receive analog channels no bother. All help would be great as to suggestions etc. Basically its a freeview box. Should I be able to receive a signal to this in Ireland? Im based in Limerick.

Does it have a "Freeview" logo? If so, I'm to presume it's a MPEG2 DTT tuner, not sure what you'd pick up in Limerick, maybe Irish trials? Anyway, if it is Freeview/DTT, this is the wrong forum category (Terrestrial being the proper place).

Its a Car Freeview Digital DVB-T TV Receiver Box

    Bought it as this:

A MOBILE DVB-T RECEIVER THAT CAN BE USED ANYWHERE IN THE UK ,EUROPE or other countries TO RECEIVE FREE DIGITAL TV & RADIO with Clear, sharp digital picture quality better than normal analogue TV

I should at least be able to receive the digital radio signals from Woodcock Hill in Limerick surely? Is it possible the receiver box is faulty or i should have to buy a better ariel with a booster. Would I be able to receive digital tv using this box somewhere outside Limerick?

    Moving this thread to Terrestrial.

    it should say:
"A MOBILE DVB-T receiver that can be used anywhere there are MPEG2 DVB-T/DTT transmissions available".

THe only DTT/DVB-T available here at the moment are trials from a few RTE transmitter sites, or overspill in border areas (and some east coast).

You won't get the Digital Radio signals from Woodcock Hill as thats DAB and not DVB-T. Two incompatable technologies.

There is no DTT (DVB-T) from Woodcock Hill yet. There are radio stations on the DTT trial in Dublin and Louth, but not available in Limerick until DTT rollout starts (Q4 at the earliest)

Just wondering. As I read in another post is it true that because the digi receiver only has the "bigger european" countries (i.e england, france, germany etc. that i wont be able to receive the digital signals even when they are available. Also box is only DVB-T and mpeg 2 compatible. Will this be a problem?

The spec for Irish commerical DTT muxes is for MPEG4, so you could have a goose there.

Is MPEG 4 not backwardly compatible to mpeg 2? Gutted if it wont work. Might have to take a trip to Dublin to check out signal. Would I be able to get signal clearly from Templeogue area. Have friends there.

An MPEG4 box will display MPEG2, but not vice versa

    Templeogue is fine.

But MPEG 4 seems to only be able to store more channels etc. and work at wider/more acurate frequencies than MPEG 2. Are you saying MPEG 2 will not work at all in Ireland?

Might take a drive up to Templogue over the weekend and have a look see. Hope ye can answer the last question. Might save me an un necessary trip

At the moment, the trials have RTE1, 2, TV3 and TG4 in MPEG2, so your DTT box should receive them in Templeogue, assuming you've a good signal.

After the trials, and DTT properly launched, all the channels are expected by many to be all MPEG4, so your MPEG2 box would be of no use then (unless you drive to MPEG2 area like NI or something).
