Is it possible to buy extra pairs of DF socks?

I'm one of those people who goes through them quickly and when going off to the camp, I'd prefer to have a few spare socks in case anything happens to the pair I have.

I tried a few other types of socks ("boot socks", Hiking socks) etc but no luck.

Buy brigendale (spelling?) socks - good support but a bit expensive. otherwise just use football socks - do your boots and bottoms of combats corectly and nobody will notice.

I always preferred the DF issued socks compared to the ones on sale in places like Army bargains. Try online! Tonnes of military surplus websites floating around!

OP How many pairs of socks did you get issued? I only got two. Does anyone know would I get more issued before my recruit camp or am I expected to buy my own spares?

Same goes for combats, shirt, smock, boots etc. What happens when they get nice and mucky? I have no spares!!

If you value your feet go for a bridgedale sock. Especially when breaking boots in in the summer! Have a coolmax liner sock on and a thicker decent sock over it. Stops blisters on two counts!

Previous posters have advised bridgedales and I'd also recommend them. You'll find the their comfort trekker is a good year round sock, I can wear them without a liner, but get the liner just in case. What makes the bridgedales so different than your regular football or pennys jobs, is that they are made out of an extra fine wool called merino. Its softer than regular wool, has good thermal and wicking properties as well.

A two pack of bridgedale coolmax liners are about €20 and a pair of comfort trekkers around 17 or so. Buying summits might seem smart but they'll roast the feet off you during summer, particularly when paired with a goretex boot.

I remember in an outdoor trade magazine years ago that Bridgedale had won a contract to supply the Norwegian armed forces or something like that.

Bridgedales are available in most good hiking shops, Millets, the Outdoor Adventure Store, The Great Outdoors - heck even arnotts have a selction of the them now. Hint, arnotts reduce everything during their sales, pick up cheap bridge deales then. Me, I used to just get free "test socks" in the places that I worked :D
