recycling plastic

    local recycling centre (ballymount) has stopped taking plastic (still takes bottles but not plastics). anyone know anywhere else on the southside that takes plastic before i start sending it to the landfill again?

    Not sure if its much use to you but here is an option,

    The recycling centre is located in Coolmine Industrial Estate, beside the Fire Station and Fingal County Council Transportation Depot.
    OPENING HOURS
    Monday to Saturday from 9.00am to 4.00pm,
    Late opening on Thursdays 9.00am to 7.00pm
    Closed on Sunday and Bank Holidays

    Check out www.dublinwaste.ie for a list of recycling centres. You can search by type of material you are trying to recycle.

    the centre on sandymount strand take all type of plastic. this is because 1. there's no one there to police it 2. there's no guidance on what types it takes. even an optimistic view would be that they're just dumping it all as i'd say half of it's contaminated with food.

    the centre in ringsend won't take any plastic that has come into contact with food, even if you've washed it out, and will only take types 1,2 and 4. i asked the guy straight what this left as most of the plastic i have to recycle is from food wrapping and he said bluntly 'not much'. it's because they sell on the plastic and the people who buy it are very particular...

    the positive aspect is that i'm more aware of things wrapped in plastic and tend to go for the loose veggies where i can...
