I've just finished reading the SE may festival thread and ther seems to be serious issues regarding high reg fees crap food.
So what standard should we expect for levels of reg fees 5/10/20/50/100etc?
My limited experience is that of the Macau in Cork, the Fitz, the Bank in cork.the CPT and Sporting Emporium.
    The Macau
250eom 25euro reg buffet hot and cold with wine beer and deserts absolutely beautiful spread.Same for all festivals and league finals etc.
All other regs no food provided not a sausage ie 5/10 /15/20.All reg fees are 10% Btw

    The Fitz
I only have played one tourney there a 50+5 and was pleasantly surprised to see a spread at the break ie.hot dogs, chicken, sausages etc all nice and tasty.

    The Sporting Emporium
Ive only played 1 tourney here but sausages sandwiches were available at the break though they didnt look too appealing.

    The Bank
    Recently played a 30+5
Sausages and chips at the break. But toasties and beer available all night free and on request.

    The Celtic Poker Tour
    100+10
sausages gougons and chips tasty edible and plenty to go around

I havent played any majors beside the macau festival events but what is the standard like for the 150+ regs eg The Irish open?

In the fitz we have hot and cold finger food for all tournaments. The end of month tournaments and bigger events like the Fitz 500 and Festival events always have a full buffet - usually roast meats with veg and potatoes and a selection of deserts.

this really is the nuts, the spread they put on for the reg is amazing.

Fitz is by far the best I've seen on this score (also score high for reasonable regs and lack of tournament league tax etc.)

Cool Hand Luke's is decent too and has a friendly atmosphere.

I know I'm repeating myself, but the Emporium is awful.

the fitz is ridiculouosly good, i have played the eom purely for the food on occasion,

the se on the other hand is an absolute disgrace, the recent 500 game had a 50 reg and the same old deep fried crap on offer

@10% reg I'd happily get my own food if the dealers were trained properly, tables were limited to 9 seats and the room temperature was kept constant.

I can't for the life of me see why they would do this.... they wouldn't even break even...

I dont think ive ever had a pleasant dining experience at a poker tournament. I think if you are taking money from the reg fee you should cater to vegetarians.

Im hungry after reading this. The sporting emporium had food and wine down in the bookmakers one time i was there. Perhaps they could do this again for this event

    I echo what OCallagh said.
I usually have a dinner before I head out to play, so I generally couldn't give a damn what food is on offer.

One thing I've often wondered though is, why are reg fees percentage based?

Why do we pay €20 for a 200 event and €10 for a 100 event when barring multi day tourneys the casino's operating costs are the same?

There was a ridiculous situation last year at the Aussie Millions where they ran a 100k tournament with a reg of 10k, it was basically a STT and they generated 100k in reg, their overheads were probably in the region of $100!

WTF? Funny thing is, people didn't think twice about paying it.

Once the buy in goes over 200 10% reg is ridiculous, if its in a hotel i can see why this might be up too 500.

As for the food , the fitz monthly dinner is a serious spread. 270 for a dinners a bit steep but it is tasty as hell. Emporiums awful alright , And there 1000 +100 is a joke reg fee, and i wont be playing it at that reg price, should be 1000 +50

fitz are the best ive played in. I love the food there, I have eaten dinner there several times and not bothered about playing, as its that good and very reasonable. I like the cold meats on offer too as your not just eating ****e sausages etc all the time then.

Jackpot is pretty poor for this, and Im always starving in the emporium, the looks i get when i try to take more than 2 triangles of sandwiches when they go around are so disturbing.

Whats the standard at the majors epts, irish open, gukpts etc. ?

I'd be in favour of lower reg fee but no need for dinner or 'better food'. Cardrooms ive been to in Dublin are not condusive for eating in. In the S.E there is hardly anywhere to sit with food if you arent in first so you end up standing eating food. When standing theres nowhere proper to rest your food and the carpert there is good carpet. If i was the owner or manager i wouldnt want people going around with plates of dinner or any food that could drip or stain.

In the fitz the spread is always good but where are you meant to sit and eat. I can never find anywhere and before i know it im edged out on the gaming floor standing there with a plate of food looking at people playing blackjack which doesnt seem right. Thats why i say theres no need for a dinner.

I'm all for a ryanair model myself.

A smaller reg fee and let people buy food in the casino (or elsewhere) if they so wish. 10% reg fee on the smaller tournies is okay in my book (and maybe 15% outside of casinos) but for anything over €200 and only a one day event then I think €20 with no food should be the max. And anything more should be justified by extras such as food (of an appropriate standard for the charge) but I'd prefer if extras weren't charged.
