Okay, just what it sounds like. I'm 30, in a pretty decent job and getting well paid. All of a sudden I feel like quitting and writing a book (I'm not actually going to do it, so don't worry).

But seriously, I have this nagging at the back of my brain saying..... "write, write, write". I have no idea where it's come from.
I've always been an avid reader. I love a good story. And I've often had ideas myself about books....... but that's all they were really, ideas. I've never considered doing anything about it; until recently that is.
I also have some interesting tales from my own life that I would like to put on paper....... stories you couldn't make up :)

So where in gods earth do I start. I haven't written anything at all since I was in school... back in the old essay days... and even then, i was only of a C+/B- standard.
I have no idea if I have what it takes to write a good story... I don't know what's involved. Should I look into doing a creative writing course online? Are they any good?
Or should I just slap myself in the face, and get back to my life :o

No, don't quit. You can write plenty while still working. It's not a mystical art and there's no reason NOT to do it and just 'go back to your life' - you don't have to give up your life in order to write. You just need to do it. Maybe take half an hour every day - and write something. You don't seem entirely sure about what you want to write yet - memoir or fiction - so I'd try out both, and try writing short pieces or snippets of something that might turn into something longer, rather than setting yourself the task of 'writing a book' straight off. And then see how you're getting on. :)

EDIT: I just noticed that this troll is posting rubbish everywhere.

anyway, thanks for the responses so far.
Does anyone know of good online courses? The money isn't really too much of a problem... as long as I think it would be worthwhile.
