Good evening... or should I say morning folks,
I took this shot Monday evening with Buddy. It was quite a tough one as he's a fast little fella and shooting with a macro lense made it quite hit and miss. I'm really happy with how it came out though. I set the camera up on a tripod, manually focused on where I wanted him to pop up. I then start throwing sticks (at least 30/40) just behind the bush where I wanted to capture him.

It would be great to hear what you guys think. Theirs a little bit more info up here - Doggy Shoot

    Thanks for looking,
    Kyle

Thats a beautiful shot! As a dog lover and a photographer it appeals to me.
As already mentioned the contrast work really well.

i could be completely wrong, but it looks like the grass/bush in the foreground has been photoshopped in. Focus is wrong somehow.

I was thinking it looked a little ... strange ... If it is actually PS'd in it's masked exceptionally well though, except for the that wierd black splodge in the bottom left hand corner. Hard to tell without being able to see a larger version though.

Lovely dog... lovely colours... lovely shot!

Now what's the black area all about - did you hastily clone something out?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,057 ✭✭✭kjt

Thanks for all the comments guys!
The black area is purely where the flower ends and Buddy's coat blends in behind.
I haven't cloned anything, it's purely a little vignetting applied to the sides and a bit of the colour coming through from the bush behind. Here's a picture of him with the settings changed slightly - f2.8 and ss1/125 a sec opposed to f3.5 and 1/320 a sec.

    Hey guys and gals,
Just going through the comments again and wondering about the picture. Does the bottom left take away from the picture? Would you honestly think some photoshoppage had gone on there?

What were your first thoughts (if any) about the bottom left? I'd love to hear your opinion, as it seems quite a few of you thought I had messed with the corner.

    :)

lol that's the thing... there's been nothing done to the bottom left of the photo. That's how the shot was taken..

Methinks the only people who are likely to be distracted (or notice) are interweb photography critics!

Personally I think it looks on close inspection like it has been altered, but if you were to print it out and frame it I doubt it would be an issue at all.

Thanks Dades, getting it canvas printed 40"x30" so we shall see :)

The first photo is a gem. Such a happy face. Does it matter if the grass is photoshopped or not? The whole point of a photo is the end result, I think.

Love it i must say. Just got myself a new pup today, so some fun in store in the comming weeks and months taking photos there.

Awh brilliant! One bit of advice is to take Loads and loads and loads of pictures! You really can't take too many, when Buddy was a pup I thought I was taking too many, looking back I didn't take enough. Pups grow at an astonishing rate!

Post some pics up when you get a chance, would love to see him!!
