Provision for outdoor sockets in new estates?

Have a run of the mill semiD (built 2005) and now need an outdoor socket in the garden to power pond filter/pump.

Do builders usually make provision for this - leaving access for a sparks to come in and sort out without ripping through concrete perimeter path/house wall, etc.??

There is an outdoor oil burner next to pond which has an electrical connection - but its housed on a concrete base. Even if this particular cable can be accessed, is it likely that it would be possible to hook up to it?

I know the answer ultimately is to get a sparks on site but I just want to gauge how easy/difficult its likely to be to sort this out.

No not usually. Only when asked and not for free.

The outdoor socket is easy. I normally find a socket that is indoors, but lines up with where I want one outdoors and simply take it off and drill through the wall. I then wire from the inside socket to the outside one and there is no mess of fuss or any sign of cables. The sockets cover both sides of the hole.

To get across the path requires a bit of destruction!!

Perhaps. Some boilers (most) have a permanent feed, if so this may make it possible.

I forget about the OS supply for the burner, and pop an IP65 Twin socket back to back to an internal socket as advised by fishdog.

Stoner, it may be a handy way to get power to the pond rather than chashing the path.

yeah your right sorry, for some reason i missed the reference to the pond in the OP, and was answering an outside socket issue.

those pumps are very light on electricity and it would save whoever you get to to the work time, and you money, would need to be suitably isolated and fused too.
