bought the above recently, and the sound doesnt appear to be working. At times it did work, then the sound manager would pop up saying a device was plugged into a jack when it wasnt and it wouldnt work after that. Its now not working at all, restart after restart no sound.

Any ideas? should i bring it back or reinstall drivers? not sure of exact model or where to get sound drivers from? Says the device is working okay in device manager

    thanks
    Trilla

These were only on sale a few weeks ago right? If something gave me trouble that soon after buying it, I would send it straight back.

I had a Toshiba that did that.

It turned out the sound drive had been corrupted... and a good chunk of the operating system too... through applied bogodynamics or something. Anyway, I just formatted and reinstalled and it worked fine.

Reinstall the drivers first. If that doesn't fix the problem send it back for repair. Warranty on these is pretty good i think

Sounds like (pardon the pun) the issue is with the Realtek Jack Sensing software (I'm assuming the sound hardware is realtek?). Go into Control Panel and see is Sound Manager listed there, it is the single biggest f%%k up of software I have ever dealt with. Aside from it detecting the wrong thing when plugged in , it doesn't work properly half the time. You could try reinstalling the driver for the Sound and see does that help.

before you do anything I recommend that you ring Medion, the number is on the outside of the box it came in.

I found that the mouse it came with wasn't wireless as the original email I got the offer on. I'm a leftie and all the usbs are on the right so short cable, problem.

they were very helpful, with very little phone delay. they are sending me a cordless mouse without any hassle or fuss.

RING THEM. I have always found them good

In that case it might be worth uninstalling and literally reinstalling just the driver through device manager, with no software

With realtek I dont think its possible to do that without it incorporating the Sound Manager stuff too. I had awful trouble with there drivers and software on my pc at home with the onboard audio, a couple of hours trying to rectify the issue...
They dont bundle the driver package on its own, its all incorporated into one installer thats about 25megs in size whcih includes the Sound Manager and jack Sensing ****e too (unfortunately)

If you use the install package then yes you will have to install all the software. If you extract everything from the EXE file first though you can go into Device Manager and click on Update Device Driver from the Realtek section. Select browse my computer and point it to where the driver has been extracted to. Voila. Nice brand new driver without the software.

I got one and having had a few problems including sound and blue screens brought it back for a full refund, no quibble. Was only asked to specify the problem.

Bought a HP 2750 instead at PCWorld. Better spec and 20% off, listed at €1000 paid €800 so same price.

I never had an issue with the Realtek Sound Manager and in fact I quite like it. But I'm on an HP lappy.

Honestly I'd go get a real laptop from a real company direct; like dell or toshiba or HP or someone.
