Fantasy Limerick

Any ideas for a fantasy Limerick? Forgetting about budgeting constraints and planning restrictions and CPOs, what changes would you make?

Just to get the ball rolling, I would love to relocate all the residents in the Island Field area to new houses and develop that entire area as a commerical district with hotels and pedestrianised streets all radiating onto the Shannon/Abbey river bank (a big walkway all around for rollerblading or mooring boats etc.) I would also look at redeveloping all of O'Callaghan strand with bars and restaurants stretching from the New Hilton. Again the entire length of O'Callaghan strand from Sarsfield bridge to Shannon bridge could be pedestrianised with terraces for people to eat/drink in summer right on the river bank.

Would also like one iconic sculpture or building to represent the city. We can no longer expect international tourists to marvel at a rock on a pedestal.

    What would you do?

Pedestrianise from William Street to Lower Mallow Street, from the river to Catherine street. That would mean you would need The Southern bypass to be completed. Then get some density in there in terms of Shops and the like.

Knock everything* from Sarsfield Bridge to Childers Road,Abbey Bridge to Puches Cross and make the F*ing streets wide enough for a Luas.

Obviously consideration would have to be made for Georgian Limerick from Cecil
St. out O'Connell Avenue, but many you said forget the constaints...we could replicate them further apart in the same approximate area.

Here here. Replace it with something we can actually listen to without the threat of dementia.

Also wipe Penneys off the map and all the "Sports Stores" that stock the urban terrorist attire aka tracksuits and hoodies.

That ugly building beside Arthurs Quay should also be consigned to history.

All those British chain stores should also be exclusive to places like the Crescent with tax breaks and lower rates for independent Irish shops in the city. Make the city more Irish instead of a second rate clone of somewhere in England. Forge our own identity instead of adopting someone elses.

We need more character and variety in the city and the focus should be on the areas beside the river. No more fast food joints like Burger King, Mcdonalds etc we should encourage small independent cafes(like Javas) and bistros and the like. Then the city might actually be worth visiting.

A decent live music venue as an alternative to Dolans would be nice too.
