Have you hit a hole in one?

I'm relatively new to golf so i've not had very many chances, but last weekend i hit the pin on a par 3 and its probably the closest ive came to getting a hole in one.

Few of my mates have hit holes in one on the same course, on some of the shorter holes.

So any hole in one stories?

I got one in Listowel GC on what used to be the 163yd par 3 9th with a 6 iron on 20th September 2002.

I was playing on my own as it was on a Friday during work hours as well as race week in the town. Nobody ever believed me it happened :(

I must have done something very wrong in a previous life.

Nice :D Shame no one got to see it, but ill take your word for it!

Another question actually, any of you folks have a hole in one policy with your mates.. ie, if anyone hits one when they're playing with us, everyone has to throw them 20 quid!

I think the person who gets a hole in one is meant to buy a round at the bar for anyone there. Not sure the history behind it. Got 1 once years ago when I was just starting. Little did I know how rare they are. Now I'm happy to hit a few greens ;)

Yea I have 2, both they weren't in competition unfortunately.

The 1st was on the 9th on Mt Wolseley, back in 2005 (it was actually the day I closed the sale of my house)
And the 2nd was this year on the 10th in Kilkea Castle.

They are great to have, but at the end of the day, it is a lucky shot!

On the buying drinks, you are supposed to buy a round, dunno why.
More interestingly, there is a hole-in-one clause in your golf insurance, where they will cover a drinks bill up to €130, once you have all the reciepts, and the committee approval.

zero I'd say, seen as it is a self policing gentlemans sport.

Classic Id love to see how far € 130.00 goes in a top class place like the K club. Three or four cosmo's.

I came close once out in Woodbrook in Shankill / Bray. It was a par 3 plopped down about 2 inches from hole.

Got one in the first year when I started playing - 15 years ago now. There was a raised bunker in front of the green so I didn't see it go in - spent a few minutes looking for it before my playing partner took a look in the hole!

Took a long break from golf (hit 3 out of bounds off the first when I was 17 and had to leave the course - have calmed down a bit since then!) concentrated on the hurling for a good few years until the number of broken bones started to get out of hand. Back into the golf in a big way now and hoping to nab my second - next time (finger crossed there is one) I hope to see it go in. I have got into the (bad) habit of checking the hole if I can't find my ball:). Get a couple of funny looks alright!

I've been playing for 16 years and I've never had one. Lipped out of the hole once and have holed second shots on par 4's before. Maybe I'll bag one this year.

On a given hole the odds range from approx 1 in 5000 for worldclass golfers on easy holes, to 1 in 25000 for average golfers on average holes.

Clearly the more attempts you make the better you chances, unfortunatly the odds are you will never have one.

    Have fun trying tho:D

I got one about 2 and a half years ago. Was playing the Swords open and it was on the old 3rd hole which has now been removed. Was just a friendly game with my dad and a friend of his. Great feeling to actually hit one.
