Hi guys, there seems to be alot of experts in beer and home brewing posting here. Beer is something i take a great interest in and would obviously like to know more too.
Would anyone be able to recommend any books on beer? I'm looking for something kind of historical and outlining the different types and regional variances to begin with before moving on to the home brewing type of thing (think il give that a go for the long winter nights!!)

Try one of Michael Jackson's books (no, not that M.J.).
I have his World Guide To Beer, which, if a little dated (there are probably newer editions out) gives a good overview. It starts out about ingredients, the brewing process, tasting, style guides etc., then goes through a country a chapter, focusing in on particular styles for different countries, giving the history etc. A very interesting book that I often pick up and flick through.

For an Irish perspective, you should pick up Beer and Cider in Ireland: The Complete Guide by Iorwerth Griffiths.

A lot that are available are are really beer produce sorter by country or real ale pubs such as CAMRA real ale guides, but the good beer guide to Belgium is a gem

This is the book that really kick started my interest and absolute fantastic rea
The Taste Of Beer: A Guide to Appreciating the Great Beers of the World

    a good buy and investment

Also really anything by Michael Jackson's , such as Michael Jackson's Great Beer Guide or Beer (Eyewitness Companions) by Michael Jackson

Another is 300 Beers To Try Before You Die http://shop.camra.org.uk/DisplayDetail.aspx?prodid=80

This one is a particular favorite of mine by an other author that helped kick start the craft beer movement in the US

Microbrewed Adventures: A Lupulin Filled Journey to the Heart and Flavor of the World's Greatest Craft Beers, by Charlie Papazian

Beer & Cider in Ireland: The Complete Guide also good for a look at the Irish beer movement and here is a review

Its a great book, but just to be aware it is more for the home/craft brewer. But does contain great inform on the various styles and info about the various yeast in use
