Can Anyone tell me how long does it take from signing on for job seekers allowance to actually recieving the money ?

I was made redundant (Not entitled redundancy payments) last month, I signed on on May 2nd & am wondering how long it takes before the money hits my Bank A/C.

depends man...if u leave a job of ur own volition then its 9 weeks (no question) but as u were made redundant it shouldnt be that long provided u satisfiy the means test...maybe like a week or two...hope this helps...

If it is Jobseeker's Allowance it can take some time. Due to the huge increases in people signing on, there are some horrendous backlogs - some offices are only dealing with February cases now.

It sounds like you signed on for Jobseeker's Benefit (not means tested), and if your claim is straight forward, and you have submitted all your documentation it could take around two weeks.

If you are finding things difficult financially, you could contact your local CWO (Health Board ) and they may pay you Supplementary Allowance until your claim is processed.

Easiest thing to do would be to ring the Local Office you signed on in, they would be able to give you the best indication of the length of time they expect your claim to be processed in.
