With the level of fraud on ebay, I'd say its to do with them being of fairly high value and good reputation.

Otherwise, could be there always has been loads of BMW's on there, or else it could be that the credit crunch is hitting home, and people need to pay off debt quickly.

They are no longer as exclusive as they once were.

In the UK the 3 Series outsells the Ford Mondeo year after year.

yep it does, or has done for the past 3 years or so, but everyone misses the point, the 3 series covers; compact, saloon, coupe, estate and convertible.

Are there two styles of mondeo saloon and estate?

You are basically comparing one model in isolation versus the cumulative sales of 5 different types of car from one manuf.

The reason that there’s so many 3 series is because when people are buying this type of car, they read “What Car” and the like, and take the reporters word that this is the best car in its class. Also you’ll find (because of the above) that your neighbor will be driving one, so you must buy one to keep up with him. Also to a lot of people they buy the BMW badge first and car second (1series comes to mind) as its a status symbol

Also (because of the above) the residual value of the 3 series should be better then most, because there is a demand for these cars second hand.

People just have more money now so they buy what they like, making cars like BMW's alot more popular.

Good cars, its just such a shame that so many of them are driven by muppets.
