There's 1200 pharmacists working in Ireland. Go talk to them.

sunnyjim has a point, you should really go talk to a pharmacist, maybe even one who has just graduated recently and ask for their opinions. Or would you prefer to take advice from random strangers on an internet forum about such an important thing as a change in your career direction??

you sound like you are basing your move on hear-say. are you just leaving your existing course because you don't like it now or because you heard a few bad stories from people?

Do whichever interests you the most and forget about what anybody else says.
Engineering is such a broad subject that of course there's going to be boring jobs out there. But there's also some really intersting stuff you can do with it, so go with where your skills fit best.

    Good luck!

Well, I'm not a pharmacist, but I do work in a pharmacy alongside three other pharmacists, two technicians, a grad student and and a handfull of assistants including myself. While I can't tell you about what it would be like to study in college, it strikes me as a nice job. You're on your feet all day and people constantly want you for one thing or another but it is rewarding. There's usually some flowers or chocolates knocking around the back of the shop some where as thank you gifts from people. Not that'd I'd say that's the norm, I work in a local pharmacy where you'ld know 90% of customers to see. At the moment, because of the HSE stuff, most pharmacies aren't hiring and grad students are finding it very difficult to get placements, I can't imagine that'd apply to you by the time you graduate if you so choose to follow that path but I'd bear in mind you need to be good at what you do.
