Just wondering if many of you have heard of this event and if it will attract many big names?

Judging by their website, it seems a very professional affair alltogether. Given that the schedule is quite compact, it means that there should be decent prize money for each event, which should attract a decent field (cynical, I know!).

I know it's very near to the Olympics, but given it's celebrating a major milestone, it would be great if the current American middle-distance star (Alan Webb) could be brought in. I'm sure there'd be a host of East Africans interested in it.

It's on the same weekend as Crystal Palace so I don't think the top tier are likely to choose the Morton Mile.

Good to be excited about it anyway:confused:. Could work to their advantage though, not everyone runs in every meet depending on agents, meet directors and with it been close to London athletes could double up, CP is a two-dayer this year. I still think they'll bring in some decent athletes, look what Cork are getting this year after all.

I'd say it's not bad that it's on the same weekend as a really high profile event because the people that are going to run Crystal Palace were going to be hard to get anyway so that means the Morton organisers can still go after the athletes they probably had in mind in the first place.

This event is free to the public but is admission by ticket only. You can order your tickets from the official website.

Event line up looks good with some events suited to attract Ireland's own high profile athletes (eg. mens 400m, women's 400m, hammer and 100m Hurdles) aswell as the mile, 2 mile and 3 mile races.

Hopefully a good field will show up on the day.

That's class that it's free, be nice if there was a bit of a crowd and an atmosphere there - it's really a struggle to get a good atmosphere for minority sport events.

I can't understand having a 3 mile race though. I know they are recreating a past event, but how are they going to attract athletes into that race? And the spectators will need a calculator to figure out if the times are good.

I'd say that it's a good opportunity for athletes to have a go at these rarely run distances and maybe get themselves a PB or even a record.

Presumably they are holding the Hammer in the stadium (rather than in the field outside). Hope the footballers don't mind :)

And I presume there's entry on the gate or it would mitigate against the big crowd they are expecting, and deserve.
