I forgot my watch at home and need one for my exam today.
Does anyone know, where I can get one on the campus or on my way to the RDS?

There are clocks in the exam hall.

Yea, I know, but knowing my luck, I'll probably sit so far away from them that I can't see them properly

Ask one of the invigilators to bring one closer to you!

So far everywhere I've sat in the exam hall I've been pretty far away from the clocks. They only have clocks set-up at the top of each row and in the middle of the hall. Luckily I've good eyesight so I can see them but I'd say a lot of people have trouble with them. I really think they could do with more of them; I don't think its been this bad before.

Yeah, I was sitting with one behind me, meaning I was the furthest possible from a clock and couldn't make it out at all (even with my glasses on, my eyesight is terrible). I asked one of the invigilators the time and she helpfully told me that there was a clock at the top of the hall. Honestly, if I've managed to make it into college could she not credit me with some level of intelligence?

Good story mate. I usually just have my phone on the ground beside me (on) and anytime I need the time I just press one button. I was second from the front there last week and the clock was at such an angle I couldn't see. So just to test it, every time an invigilator walked by I checked my phone for the time... No problems.

Um, I assume that devices that can hold data are forbidden?

Nice, and they saw you on your phone? I'm glad they've relaxed the phone rules from no phones on your person, to having a phone but keeping it turned off.

That's been the unofficial rule for a while now anyway, I've been putting mine on the ground (off) since 1st year, never had a problem.

Slevins, I'd watch yourself doing that. The other day one of the invigilators picked my phone up and hit a button to make sure it was off. I hadn't even gone near it, she just happened to see it lying there. She put it straight back down again and walked off when she saw it was off, but I'd hate to think what she would've done had it been on.

Speaking of phones in the exam hall, has anyone noticed the announcement before exams runs something like "You are not allowed to bring a phone into the exam hall. If you have brought your phone in, please leave it beside your desk or in your pocket". Bit of a consistency? :P

Oh are they still at that? Haven't really been listening, too busy panicking! That's what I meant by an 'unofficial rule' - I suppose they don't want to have to throw huge numbers of people out or have them leave, get rid of the phones and come back because it would cause too much disruption.

It's a lot my lenient from when I was in first year, back then they were insanely into it.

Down in Blackrock in August they used actually come outside the exam hall and shout it at everyone to make sure none of us brought them in with us. Then do it again when we went it. Even leaving them on outside on was a problem in one of the exams I sat.

But of course, we young people could easily listen to a phone call from outside, sure we have super hearing (at least compared to the old lady who runs exams down there :p)

    Thanks for all the tips.
Couldn't find anything cheap at UCD, just the 35€ UCD Clock in the SU shop.
So I had to go home and collect mine and missing some study time.
Then I ended up very near the clock in the exams hal grrr :(

I remember her! (from...erm...Christmas...tells you something about my memory that I'm thrilled about remembering something from 5 months ago). She seemed to live for the exams there. Bless.

Why does the announcer in Simmonscourt tell people to "hand your papers up if it's lost it's your fault". Why would someone not hand up their paper! Also he told us that it was an infraction to remove any sheets from the exam books. I always take out some sheets from the middle so I can draw mind maps because I don't want to put my rough work in the exam book, so the lecturer can see how crazy I am!

Ask for a spare and just label it on the front rough work.

You have to hand it up because if you ask for extra pages they mark who got extra books to make sure they haven't lost any along the way.

Missing pages could make them thing that they've lost pages etc and could cause hassle with exams.

He also announced something about people spending too much time in the toilet would be sent to the nurses office :D That was funny but otherwise I'd really like to duct tape his mouth shut.
