Hey, A couple of shots from the weekend. I ventured forth to the hothouses in the Botanical Gardens here.

I'm not convinced that the subject matter is interesting enough for C&C but I'd still be keen to hear some comments on the technical aspect. Thanks, D

Gah, just noticed that I've posted the wrong version of the last one on Flickr. I have one somewhere with the lights in the corner cloned out. Urm, can yis just imagine that they're not there ;-)

    Howdy.
First off, I like the 3rd one best. Personally, I'd have liked to have seen it without a flash, a longer sutter speed, a higher position and perhaps one or two steps to the left to encorporate the traffic-lights into trails. But it was a good find at a good time of day.

The first one I think is overexposed. The window in the background is distracting because of the bar at the bottom- but you could easily clone it out! Again, it looks like too much flash, as the petals looks a bit shiney, though I may be wrong. It's nicely framed and the colours are good, with an intresting dof.

The 3rd one is weird. The rock in the middle ruins it, as does what I suspect is heavy flash. You'd want to see where they converge if you use this angle.
The perspective is very dull, it's what everybody else will take. Get lower. You might look like a prat, but you'd get a better pic - especially considering the height difference between all of these cacti, and you'd get rid of that big grey rock too!

Overall they're good, but tainted. Kill the flash when you have available light. If you're using auto mode, switch to Apenture 'a', pick the highest available (smallest f stop) and go for it.
Sorry if I was a bit harsh! Just offering constructive help!

The first one isnt overexposed, the background is white and there's sun on it, but it's not burned out.

But personally speaking - once you've seen one half decent flower picture you've seen 'em all.

Agree about the rock on the second pic, but it's nothing spectacular anyways.

The third picture is the nicest, and I disagree about the flash. Its the flash that makes the picture IMO ! The way the sign stands out from the background gives a surreal quality to what is , after all, only a picture of a sign.
