Is it worthwhile flying to Luton to avail of cheaper Ryanair flights? I see there is a bus and train (after a shuttle bus) from Luton to London. Is it relatively cheap and convenient?

I did it a few years ago. Can't remember the prices but it was pretty cheap. So if the flight is cheap then its definately worth doing.

If you can get cheap flights, its very worthwhile! You could try for flights into Stansted either, as they have a shuttle from beneath the terminal building into London. I think in either case you can get the train tickets on the plane, which is cheaper than getting them at the airport.

Ryanair sell bus tickets on boards for getting into the centre of London:

London Luton Airport is located 30 miles from London city centre. A free shuttle bus links the airport with the train station. Journey time by train into the city is approximately 30 minutes and costs approx €15.00. Further information can be found on www.thameslink.co.uk.

the shuttle bus to the train station is right outside arrivals, we hopped on and nobody looked for tickets so i assume its free, it doesn't take more than 2-3 minutes to reach the train-station

as for the train into london it costs 10.90stg for a single and the journey takes 1 hour, main stop in central london is st pancras/kings cross, other stops may include london bridge, charing cross etc depending on final destination of said train

Depends on where you are staying and flight costs. For me I have always found Heathrow to be cheaper even for flights. So do check the Heathrow option also, Heathrow is not as bad as people make out.
