have you forwarded all the necessary ports to the ps3 not your pc?
    you AND your friend

    Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare uses ports 3658, 3478, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 5223 (TCP).
also i'd recommend if you set the ps3 as the default static nat address,

i used to have awful problems, can connect now 99.99% of times !

    what router you using? netopia?

    cheers lads,

no i definitely dont have all those ports open - will try when i get home tonight.

    ya its a netopia 3347nwg.

I just presumed that because i could play games online i could host or connect to private host matches easy enough....how wrong i was.

i read about putting the ps3 in dmz on the router but dont know how to do that with the netopia interface ....

hold on - i seem to remember making a choice when i port forwarded - and you're right i did choose my second laptop !!! what a tool .

    sorry for thinking out loud.:p

But in saying all that i dont remember seeing the PS3 ip as one of the choices ......aaarrrggghhh i'll just delete them and start over again !

    it'll probably be there

ya dont have to delete them just disable them and then go to the network settings on ps3 and enter them manually, for the ip address just put it at somethin like 192.168.1.20, the default gateway is 192.168.1.254 the primary dns 213.94.190.194 and the secondry 213.94.190.236 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and do not use proxy, do not use mtu and enable upnp, and then with the ps3 still on enable the ports to the ps3 ip

ok - here to report success !!

Did as advised above , all the ports mentioned and static nat. Buddy did the same.
It required a reboot of his router after which all was cool.

havin a good laugh there - thing is neither of us have headsets - thats the next jawb !!

Dunno about joining a clan - is it the place for beginners ?

    tnx for the help guys
