Just finished the dip this year. As far as I know the timetable will be slightly different next year, but all lectures Monday-Wednesday start at 4 to facilitate teaching practice for sequential students. If you're a block student, then you may be in college earlier in the day too. Lectures run all day on Thursday as there is no teaching practice. No lectures on Friday. Lectures can run until 5 or as late as 8, depending on your semester course. Some semester courses run at weekends. English this year took place on Thursdays at 4 and Geography was at 5 on Wednesday, but you wont know for sure until everyone submits their subject choices. This year it took weeks for the timetable to be finalised as it depends on individual subject combinations.

I wouldn't recommended working part-time to be honest. If you are a sequential student you just wont have the time, and as a block student you will have to have all your lesson plans prepared for every class before you go out on teaching practice, while also doing micro-teaching and extra tutorials. I know people who worked part-time and they ended up falling behind on lesson plans and having to write weeks worth of them from memory the day before their inspector came.

If you are a sequential student there is plenty of opportunity to supervise or sub and you will be paid for this, so you might not need to work. My school have given me (and still give me as I'm not finished teaching yet) the option of doing extra hours and the pay is great so I did not need to work.

But if you do decide to work, you will have weekends free, and Fridays too if you are a block student or a sequential student who has no classes on Friday. You will usually be finished college by 6, but your specialist teaching methodologies/semester course may run later. You will be free until 4 Monday - Wednesday if you are a block student. Block students go out on TP for 2 weeks in November.

I still have my timetable if you need anything else clarified.

I'm not sure the college will be sending out too much info for awhile. I remember waiting. If you really need further info, then check the Education department on www.nuig.ie. The course director's detail's are there. But be warned, she can talk for Ireland!

Good luck with the dip! It's a hard year but it's worth it. As long as you keep on top of assignments and lesson plans and study there shouldn't be a problem with subbing on a Friday.
