Just wondering why is there lack of N64 ports on the DS? The GBA had loads of snes ones. Wouldnt mind playing goldeneye or paper mario on my DS.

Think Nintendo went out of their way to make some original games in franchises instead - isn't Mario and Luigi pretty much a Paper Mario semi-sequel?

Goldeneye is probably because of the control scheme though - difficult to get down. 3D games are very difficult to perfect on handhelds - the lack of an analogue stick is a major problem. Check out Mario 64 DS to see how awkward it can be - it stills works, but it really needs an analogue stick for perfect movement.

also they might look like right scabby b*sterds if they charge 30 euro for a n64 port on the ds while only charging 10 (might have prices wrong) on the virtual console.

im sure they could do something with the touch screen for goldeneye, maybe use the touch screen to look around, the d-pad to move around and the left trigger to fire and the rest of the buttons for secondary purposes. then again, ive never played goldeneye though, just presume=ing this could work!

ive never had a n64 either, more ports would be sweet. i really enjoyed mario 64 on the ds. they should release more and i doubt they take long to make. plus i think nintendo would be applauded if they sold these ports for 30 quid since most games are 45 euro. yes there is the virtual console aspect but not everyone has access to it(i have a wii but no broadband) and many wont know wtf virtual console is?

    they can't release goldeneye.

microsoft now own rare the guys who made it, so they'd need to have permission from microsoft to port it to the DS and also unfortualately EA own the rights to the james bond franchise.

I'd say the Virtual Console is the reason we haven't seen more N64 stuff on DS. I'm happy enough with that aswell. I dont want to pay full whack for a retro port, even 1000 wii points is a little steep for me.

Having said that I did enjoy Mario 64DS But I think that may be the exception.

I see the point on the VC but not everyone who owns a DS has a wii. Even people who do don't necessarily have access to the internet. Couldnt the people who do DS homebrew port the games? Or have they done so already?

The DS isn't powerful enough unfortunately. It works when Nintendo tweak the source code of the original game to the DS spec, but homebrewers can't do that.

Well they brought super mario 64 to the DS and I wasnt a fan of it, they try to stay away from 3D games on the DS (while every game on the N64 was basically 3D), doesn't work so well on the small screen.

In saying that I'd love to see donkey kong 64 on the DS
