Decent tripod

I'm getting a fujifilm 6500fd second hand from a friend and I would like to buy a tripod for it, nothing too pricey. Would prefer to buy it in Dublin tbh cuz I'm going away next week so want it for then.

A slightly related question, can you bring a tripod as hand luggage on a plane? I'm not planning on checking a bag on this trip but would like to bring a tripod along... will it get taken off me at the airport?

    Thanks!

Edit: Would like the tripod to be reasonably sturdy!

Want to buy in Dublin rather than order from the internet... ordinarily I'd check the internet, I know dealextreme.com do cheap ones but I want it now-ish...

Gunns on Wexford street would be a good spot, they're just across from Whelans.

Nah, they're pretty crap and annoying. Looking for a 'proper' tripod. Anyone recommend brands or anything that are reasonably priced?

The Slik brand ones are usually good, and fairly cheap. I sold my old one a while ago in favor on a Manfrotto, though it cost nearly 5 times as much :(

Ok I do not know a whole lot about Tripods (a very kind Boards member gave me mine as he had upgraded) but I was in Spectra photo in Dundrum, the other day and I saw a Manfroto 785b - and was SO impressed with it. It was about €80 (which is very very cheap for a manfroto) but playing with it, I was amazed, you have what is almost like a joystick which you can easily ratate the camera and lock it into position easily with one finger. Was very small and light but sturdy too

    Hope that helps

+1 You won't go wrong with Gunns. Go in and ask them what your looking for within your budget and they'll sort you out.

Good luck and congrats on the camera :)

If you dont want to go the whole big tripod route, why not a gorillapod?

Apparently the Gorillapod SLR zoom easily takes a up to about 1.5kg?

I am gonna get one this week as dont wanna bring my manfrotto and head on plane.

Anyone else out there have a gorillapod?

I have one, and they are very cool, and very useful for getting shots that would otherwise be impossible (the thing clings to almost anything, like a spider). But, it is not a replacement for a regular tripod, it's only a few inches tall. It's well worth the money though.
