I have a Dell Laptop & everytime it starts it invokes a dialog box which starts the installation of something called "Photo Gallery" (No idea what it is, not my machine)

It fails to install because it says the installation files can't be found & that they may be on another source such as a CD.

This could very well be the case as I don't own this machine & the owner could have attempted to install this and maybe aborted or something? or maybe it's some sort of infection? I just don't know.

I can't find any reference to this "Photo Gallery" in any of the following places & don't know where else to look.

    Msconfig

    Registry

Startup folder. (And there's definitely no disc in the CD/DVD drive)

Any thoughts on where this could be getting started from everytime the machine starts?

Try some of the keys in REGEDIT and see if there is a reference to a setup file.

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServices
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServicesOnce
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunOnce\Setup
