just saw this morning on the O2 website that they have dropped the price of the 8GB iPhone from €399 to €299 (3G version launching in Ireland soon?) and like other countries have not reduced the price of the 16GB model.

Wasnt it just a few weeks ago that O2 Ireland said they were in no position to drop the price of the iPhone since it was only launched in march?! Looks like they had to do it to shift stock. They are also offering an automatic credit of €100 to your bill if you have bought the 8GB model between 25th April and 8th May. (other countries offered this to anyone that purchased in the past month)

I bought my iPhone from the U.S last September so I will be giving this a skip and wIring foe the arrival of the 3G model.

It looks like we could be waiting some time as when the 3g iPhone comes out, it's going to take a while, possibly a couple of months before they can be unlocked.

I'd doubt that; considering the 2.0 firmware was hacked within hours of being released.

It came down €100 here and £100 in the UK. Looks like we are getting shafted again!

But they will be sold unlocked in Italy (and possibly Belgium and France too).

So is it possible to walk into an O2 store and pick up an iphone without having to sign up for one of their contracts? It doesn't seem possible to just get the phone on their website.

You can't play windows media or realplayer files on the iPhone. You also can't download those players to the phone.

Depends what you're looking for. You can access youtube or what you might have to do is download files to your computer and convert them for the iphone.

Anyone think it unusual that O2 have put a time limit on this offer - may 25. Wonder does that hint at when the new iphone is coming not june/july as rumooured

If you have video files on your computer you can convert them to iPod compatible formats using programs like these:

    Windows: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/
    Mac: http://www.isquint.org/

I'd say thats more than likely to ship the stock as soon as possible so they have room to bring in the 3G phones. If they are not sold out of 8gb iPhones by then they will extended the offer, or it could be they are trying to shift the 8Gb ones and then reduce the 16GB ones to shift them. As if they reduced both, they could be afriad people will just buy the 16Gb ones and they will be stuck with the 8GB model.

I imagine a 16GB and 32GB 3G iPhone will be the next release, unfortunantly I wont be affording one.

Yes. A 32GB iPhone will be released. My brother was in work about a week ago and some highly ranked O2 lads were in there talking to him about the iPhone. My brother remarked that there just wasn't enough space on them -- they told him that they planned to release a 32GB model by latest Christmas.

Still a shocking plan attached to the contract, compared to what the rest of EU gets.

Fecking Paddy Tax. They must take us for utter fools.

Yet people keep buying them because of that rotten, half eaten piece of fruit attached to them.
