    What will UPC do ?
I guess they could switch to a different frequency range but it would mean new hardware and alot of reinstallations.

Not much unless they want to switch to Wimax and do the whole thing over IP.

Aren't UPC part of a consortium (with Eircom?) bidding for DTT multiplex licences?
If they were successful with that they could probably transfer all subscribers to that for a similar service.

Its UPC (Liberty Global) in conjunction with RTE trading as EasyTV

Eircom's part of a competing consortium.

WiMax is not suitable. A mast would support about 10 viewers!

They could use the SCTV system. But it seems at the minute they are going for the DTT. The Chorus set box (not NTL) for Digital MMDS would work with MPEG2 DTT, but not MPEG4.

I wonder if it is part of Easy TV's submission "we will give up the 2.6GHz band early and without a fight if you give us DTT"

I'd say if they don't get the DTT licence you could see UPC focusing on cable only and shutting down MMDS once they're required to do so.

The MMDS market would be absorbed by Sky and whatever DTT commercial operator does come on stream.

Sky digital must have taken vast numbers of MMDS subscribers away from them over the last few years.
