Is it an authentic Leopard CD?

    ''instalation chekcs failed''

looks identical to my tiger cd

another thing - thanks for the quick response - it says leopard 10.5.2

    is that even out yet?

    Yep, 10.5.2 is out.

I'd say the fact it doesn't meet the minimum specs is why it won't install.

i have over a gig of ram and a lot more than 12 gigs of free space

would anyone cd work - or do apple tie install disks to models
i know an imac cd wont work on a macbook - but will all macbooks cd's work on all macbooks?

    thanks

Is it because the OS discs you've purchased are meant for that model of MacBook only? That's how Apple software (OS, iLife), which are bundled with hardware, works...

i thought osx can be , it shouldnt be , used on numerous comps

    theres no licence key?

stupid dick on ''lockergnome'' said it i think

How exactly are you trying to install Leopard ? Are you putting the CD in while the computer is running and and clicking the installer or are you booting from the CD by holding 'C' key during startup ?

What OS is currently installed on your computer ?

only if they are bought as an OS disc itself.

if the disc comes with a laptop/desktop it will only install on that specific laptop/desktop

    10.4.11 is on it now

i have tried both from mounted on desktop and from boot - neither work

i dont know if it was bought as a bundle - could well be - if it is i wasted 30 quid

    ''instalation chekcs failed''
''instalation check failures: this software cannot be installed on this computer''

they are the errors i got in the log file after the instalation didnt work - still on the cd - leopardy backround - but not installing

    any ideas what that means?

Is this a retail OS X disc?

    . . . if it is i wasted 30 quid

Sorry to say this but . . if it seems to good to be true (Leopard costs 129 quid) then it probably is ! I'd say what you've bought is a recovery disc from a specific computer model.

    i bought it on ebay

so i dunno if it was retail or not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

the retail disc, will have a black X on it with purple black hole (i know that doesn't make sense) around the small hole in the disc.

if it's not like that then it's not retail. also if it didn't come with a box and user manual then it's more likely not retail either.

    ah bolix

    righto - thanks

so theres absolutely no way it will work on my macbook?
the only diff in .30 mhz - identical models otherwise - the one he/she has written on the box they came in

I'd say the idea you have is good. Just a little more practising...and pay "fees" :D . I've gotten a Leopard OS Family Licence installation discs for about EUR50 on Monday - bank holiday (in UK) when there are few/missing bidders :D.

If you already have 10.4, then look out for a Leopard "Upgrade DVD" disc. Or retail Leopard if it comes by cheaply.

No. The installer is designed to verify that it is the correct version of the laptop and refuse to run otherwise. There are hardware specific features to those disks that are not available on the retail disks

    thanks

crap that tho - crap that - is the leopard upgrade disk - 130 ish euro like the retail version?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 549 ✭✭✭WUSBDesign

No, that Leopard Upgrade DVD has been priced - on eBay - in the region of EUR40. Keep hunting...and dont be rash. But if you fancy a 5-licence version, then it is around EUR120 on eBay.

Meanwhile, sell the ones you've bought.

Dont speak ill of the dead:D

Lads are right this is the install CD that comes with whatever model MacBook allowing you to reinstall if any nastyness happens to your OS. You have basically been ripped off since these disks should not be resold ( without MacBook ).
