HDMI Port Broken- what can I do?

Long time lurker of these boards but have never posted but this really has me flummoxed. After a quick google search I found a lot of people have had this problem and after trying all the usual advice offered of holding the power for 5 seconds and draining the system from the mains I've reached the conclusion that the HDMI port on the PS3 is most likely broken as I've hooked it up through the sky box's HDMI in hope it was the cable but no such luck. This happened completely out of the blue and everything was working perfectly last night.

So basically does anybody know what the best action is I can take. Had my PS3 over a year so don't think it's still under warranty, but on a you tube video of a guy with the same problem somebody told him that sony fix it for free not under warranty. Is this true? Anybody help me? Was right in the throws of a serious GTA habit and all. Thanks, Rob.

What is the problem you talk about?

HDMI cable on Sky HD box is output only so don't know why you connected it through it.

Never heard of any HDMI issues with PS3? What are the exact issues you are seeing?

I had a similar issue (HDMI stopped working after the 2.0 firmware update)
In the end, after countless calls to Sony and visits to the shop I bought it from, I ended up just giving up and buying a component cable:o

HDMI on the PS3 works fine (tried it on another tv), it just seems like the 2.0 update introduced some kind of funky HDCP that my tv doesn't like...

Perhaps test it on a friend's tv first, as it may just be the same issue with yours.

I thought HDCP-over-HDMI was only for movies and did not apply to games.
    Did I miss the memo?

Mneh, that was the general gist I got after much googling.
I'm most likely wrong here, but I thought that it was used for everything the PS3 outputs over HDMI, not just movies.

My 360 works perfectly over HDMI, and the PS3 works fine on other TVs, so I can't really think of any other explanation.

Sounds like the HDMI output of the PS3 is configured in a way that's incompatible with your TV. Maybe try going into PS3 settings and enabling/disabling a few things... Maybe fix the output to 720p/1080i, or there are other settings worth trying too.

dunno if it would work but try resetting the output on the ps3 by holdin down the standby button for 10-15 secs while its off
