Ahh now go easy on him. Let me enjoy his moment in the sun with the PS3 and COD4. We know it's not the best but it is pretty excellent.

    Never doubt its godliness!

I kind of prefer Call of Duty 1 to 4, think it had better atmosphere or maybe it's because I'm a WWII buff :)

Would take Bioshock over it as well along with the original Half-Life which is still an amazing and original game. Also Nothing beats Doom 2's simplicity!

There's just a few I'd take over it. Still, it's one of the finest games I've played in a while.

COD 4 is up there as one of my all time favourites, FPS anyway, on PC.
Gradius(CoinOp) or Super Swiv(SNES) my favourite shoot'em ups

    :)

Why create a thread claiming that it's the best shooter ever if you don't want discussion about titles that are possibly better?

CoD4 is pretty damn sweet, but for me HL2 Episode 2 just pinches it (the PC version of course, not the broken PS3 version;))

this thread is well left open to the high and mighty pc gamer coming on and saying bla bla bla pc game BS bla bla (this is a ps3 thread after all)some people just could not be botherd splashing out the money to upgrade pc's to play games on them but anyway i dont think cod 4 is the best shooter ever but it is great and probably the best the ps3 will see for a while.

its a great game across all platform, i only play it on the PC, where infact the graphics are worse than on a console.

On a related note, what's the deal with COD5? Another infinity ward effort or will someone else take a crack at it? What theatre of what war?

finished the game last night omg ive never finished a game that quick since i was 12.totally enjoyable unlocked the arcade version so im no complaining , cleared in 5 days what a game

Yeah, I horsed through it in 3 days or something crazy like that when it first came out. Had to actually force myself to stop a few times as I'd been playing it all day and knew I'd have it finished within 2 days if I kept at it:p (IIRC the release coincided nicely with a couple of weeks off work)

its like a very good movie that you take part in your self .still 70 yo yos for a game that you can finish in a few days no matter how hot it is smells of riiiiiiiip offfffffffff, still dont mind never got as much enjoyment out of a shooter , the level were your in the a180 looking down on insurgents tru the black and white camera is about as real as it gets ,like somthing off cnn.

So I take it you guys are praising the single player mainly here? Is it that good? If I was gonna get it it would have to be on console but I just absolutely do not trust anologue sticks to get me through an fps game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭Dues Bellator

trust the faitfull anologue as if they were your own thumbs, go forth my child and kill kill kill

best shooter that is on the ps3 i think.

not the best shooter ever released.

It's so hard because they have not been kind to me. Does the game smooth out the shooting and help ye a bit or are ye completely alone to aim up, then realise it's gone way too far, aim down, realise it's gone a tiny bit too low down, aim up, prepare to shoot and then die?

Agree COD4 is a great game..played it on the pc and loved it especially the multiplayer and the unlocks!!
Also played it on the xbox 360 and the controls are nowhere as good as mouse/keyboard.
Graphically they're about the same but I'm seeing better fps on 1920x1200.

    Great Multiplayer, aweful single player.

Now go and get GTA IV!!!!

Again I would agree that the multiplayer is probably the best I have played (only a recent online addict) but the SP is no where near the best shooter ever released: too many cheap tricks (in particular invisible trigger points) to be given that accolade, and a weak story. Some of the levels are brilliantly cinematic, but others fall a little flat. Again, any of the HL games (all available on PS consoles in apparently inferior form, incidentally), Deus Ex (again, on PS2 - but PC ftw), Bioshock and many more are superior in campaign mode.

It locks on if you aim with the cross hair within a certain distance of the enemy as far as I can remember.

Personally I think Half-Life series is the greatest FPS series of all time.
