    Hi there,

Dont know which forum this belongs in but i guess u will be knowledgable here....

just wondering that the legal situation is for uploading/ posting pictures that have been "watermarked / copyrighted" by a professional photographer.... I know this is done so they cannot look well when they are printed... but is there any laws / ethics saying that u cannot post them on the web without purchase....

Hope this question doesn't cause too much of a stir...

I do intend to purchase some of the photos soon but just want to post online them for the moment....

    Cheers.

If you don't own the copyright on the photo, then you can't post it.

You do not have the right to use someone elses photo without their permission. Use would include print, posting online, saving to your PC, use as your PC desktop image, etc.

Not trying to be hard, but trying to explain the situation. ;)

Yes, many people do break copyright by copying and using someone else's photo without permission.

Many of my photos are watermarked, but I still release them under the Creative Commons (I remove the watermark upon request), so it's not necessarily a no-no. From an ethical standpoint, it's frowned upon, so make clear sure the photographer has given such permissions.

From a legal standpoint, it's an absolute damned morass. You might be violating copyright, you mightn't be. Your intent, actual actions, physical location and the physical location of the host server all play their part.

You know what they say about asking Elves for advice...
