some of the programs themselves have this option set in their options folders. for example, if you use msn, it will pop up every time unless you go into the options, and change it on the general tab. that's the main way that springs to mind

Start - Run - Type MSCONFIG. Or you can download something like Crap Cleaner CCleaner.com (freeware) that will clean up temp files, and allow you to limit what starts up upon booting.

Go to Start -> Run -> Msconfig ->Startup, or use a program like ccleaner.

You can also switch off unnecessary services. Start->Run, and type services.msc. Be careful what you turn off or disable.

I'd use one of these free programs from download.com, they do a variety of other functions that'd speed up ur PC.

    Advanced WindowsCare
    CCleaner
    Glary Utilities
    Eusing Registry Cleaner

They have options to delete progs that load on startup.

I use all four to keep my computer start up as quick as possible.
Would maybe do a Defrag as well if your looking boost your startup speed.

Just be careful what you delete, google the entry or the program should give a description. Dependin on wat u hav on ur computer they're should be various programs you can kill.

I'm too sure about using mconfig or whatever as it is a bit advanced for me.
