I recently purchased some cables from Peats in order for me to be able to view the films I have on my laptop on my TV. They sold me two cables, one for the audio and another for the picture.
The problem is I have sound but I don't have any picture !!
I'm on the correct setting on the TV (right channel) don't know the technical name for it !! (I know this because I don't have sound on any of the other channels but this one)

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong ??

Need a bit more info!! Is it an s-video cable you are using? If you don't know the name try describe the cable! If so have you enable s-video in the TV menu? Are you using a scart adaptor that takes the ausio and video and then connects to the TV? or going straight into the TV with seperate audio and video terminals?
Give us as much info as you possibly can and we'll sort it for you!

OK Industria I'll do my best, I'm I'm not very technically minded :)
The two cables in question are as follows :

Audio : From the Laptop, the headphones port into the TV with two leads the red and yellow into the side of the TV (there is a 3rd point there but my lead doesn't have a 3rd head) As I said I have sound on the TV

Visual : I'm not 100% sure what comes from the lap top as I am not at home at the minute, but the point into the TV is similar to that of a mouse lead.

There are no scart leads invloved !!

This any help to you ?

OK bit better but maybe the model no and make of tv might help further.
First problem I see is the lead you have going from the headphone socket on your laptop! That is the wrong cable! If it has 3 heads on it (red, white and yellow or red, black and yellow) then it is an audio visual cable when all you need is an audio cable.
You should be using the red and white/black connectors as the yellow one is for video only.
The other lead from what you have described sounds exactly like an s-video lead. However the s-video port and the audio ports do not match up if you are connecting them seperately.

I would suggest you go back to peats and ask for the following items :

    1. 3.5mm to 2 phono audio lead
    31pTVVxyn3L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

    2. scart adaptor that supports s video
    scarta1.jpg

OK so then you connect the small headphone lead into the headphone socket on your laptop and into the red and white sockets on the scart adaptor.
Then connect the s-video cable from your laptop into the SAME adaptor. You will ignore the yellow socket on the scart adaptor it will not be used in this case.

The scart adaptor needs to be connected into one of the scart sockets on the back of your TV. Not all these sockets support s-video which is why I asked for the make and model to check for you.
Sometimes this needs to be switched on in the TV menu.

I know this is a lot to take in but follow it step by step and you will be ok.

Post the make and model of the TV and i'll check on the S-video issue.

OK, I've gone back into Peats with the TV manual !!
The guy in the store gave me a DVI-I to VGA Adaptor.
Now I've fed this from my PC into the TV and it looks like thats the trick, but its not
I have everything on my desktop on the TV, thats no problem, but when I go to play a video it doesn't come up on the screen!! Everything else comes up fine, but the video in Windows Media Player (I've tried Creative, Nero Showtime, VLC, Quicktime & Real Player) and they are all the same!!
As I say, the above mentioned programs are playing but the screen is just black!!
Could this have anything to do with my graphics card ?

Hmm, somebody else may be better placed to answer this as its a resolution issue now that you finally have picture!
I think the resolution that your computer is outputting for movies is not compatible with your TV.
Do you know what resolution you have your PC set to?
right click on desktop and go to the screen settings and it will show you.
I'll have a look and see what the resolution your TV supports in the meantime.

According to the philips website here are the computer resolutions the TV supports..

    • Computer formats

    Resolution Refresh rate
    640 x 480 60Hz
    800 x 600 60Hz
    1024 x 768 60Hz
    1280 x 768 60Hz

So just check the laptop is not set any higher! Hope that helps!

Are you outputting direct to the TV and not in clone mode ie is the laptop screen blank when you have a picture on your TV. If your are in clone mode make your TV the main display.

    Hi all,

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I didnt want to start a new one. I am hoping you can help. I bought an s-video to s-video cable in peats last weekend. Couldn't get it working in plug and play as its supposed to be. Today I went in to peats with the lap top and the cable and one of the guys in there was really helpful and he hooked up the svideo cable to a tv in there to support multiple monitors and it worked perfectly- so I know there is no problem with the cable or the laptop. He had changed my display settings and they are as they were in the shop...

I have an LG lcd tv its model 32lc 41. I have scrolled through all the input modes and I am not getting a signal from any of them.

Please help if you can. There must be something really obvious I am not doing? :pac:

    ah jeez~!

I posted that last message after an hour of fiddling.... I fiddled some more, moved the windows media player window to the far right of my laptop screen, scrolled input through av3 once more and hey presto it worked!

Thanks for reading anyway ;o) :pac:

Sounds like you had "extended desktop" enabled. This turns two or more desktops into one big desktop.
