Truly one of the finest games of last year.. and in recent years in my honest opinion.

And now comes the news that Gore Verbinski will direct it.. those of you will probably know him best from directing 'The Ring' (US Remake) and the 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' trilogy.

    Gore directs 'Bioshock'

Wouldn't be at all fond of video-game-to-movie remakes but this one could be excellent!

Well Bioshock is one of the few examples of a game that would translate naturally into a cinematic narrative IF they follow the games plot (which I won't spoil for those still playing it). There's always the risk that they'll chop out aspects they feel wouldn't work.

The other point is that it is very much an adult game for mature audiences; thematically and literally. Zombified children harvesting the dead bodies of genetically addled humans, deranged & pillaging a rusting, decrepit city is not something that can, or should, be downgraded into PG13 fluff.

    Let's face it, they're always sh*t.

This game is an utter masterpiece, in every sense. I hope it is tackled properly; meaning, if they stick in a love interest or some stupid characters for the sake of it, thus ruining one of the main elements of the game, I will point blank refuse to watch it...

It deserves to be a excellent.

This is probably the game that has the biggest chance of a successful adaptation, due to its complex and intelligent narrative. Only concern I would have is that a lot of the game had you on your own and relied on atmosphere, but some excellent characters in there too they could flesh out.

Not sure about Vebrinski though.. has made some decent films but nothing overly intelligent, and his last two Pirate films were disaster. Will wait and see!

Oh dear. Poor choice of director.

As johnny_ultimate said, one of the best things about Bioshock was the atmosphere. The Ring had none.

Hmm, could work IF (and a big IF) they stay to the plot as close as possible..................but we know game adaptions never do, look at Mario Bros. or Street Fighter (both unfairly denied Oscars)

But........I can imagine the trailer. Loads of flashy things jumping at you with a dramatic score, something happens, then blackness.....................and then cue some teen angst rock music with some poor "action" scenes and then finish up with a gravel-voiced guy dramatically saying BIOHAZARD...........RATED PG-13

Well as I said, the entire concept is R-rated. The subject matter at its core is adult, and not just the broad scope of the plot & setting.

no matter how it turns out i'm sure it'll be visually stunning

rapture is the perfect setting especailly with the art deco theme.

    People splicing and being spliced.

The Plasmids could look really cool (especially the ice and fire ones)

And of course the Big Daddy and Little Sister scenarios.

I'll go see it even if i'm not sure its gonna be a great film

I'd go just to see the big daddy

It also needs as little studio interference as possible. Along with the main scriptwriters / contributors from the game involved.

I dunno, sounds like something Hollywood would do. Turn an 18's game into a teen-friendly movie primarily on the fact that it's a video game and we all know only spotty teens play video games. Unfortunately, look what happened to the next Terminator movie (PG-13? I bet Christian Bale is glad he took that role now.)

Anywho, cuz it's a video game adaption for all we know this could be shelved anywhere down the line.

Not really the place to discuss it but yes.. in my opinion - in terms of gameplay and story, it was without question.

    didn't halo3 get a fair few 100%'s?

i'll trust my playing of it over a review, it and crysis were terrible dissapointments, fairly shoddy gameplay.. but they did look pretty.

This thread has nothing to do with the game's gameplay. And there's a forum for that anyway!; what's up for discussion is the game's storyline, its characters, themes & settings. All the fabric that translates into a movie. Which in this case, is some of the best video games is ever likely to offer hollywood.

well on that I will probably agree, but i'd see that as more of a lesson to hollywood to just stop this silliness.

I saw a movie awhile ago - well, I saw the box rather - City of Lost Children - that had be wishing they'd make a Bioshock movie. Not necessarily about the game itself, but even one more so based upon the visual style and theme.

    A sort of neo-retro sci-fi...
